Show Red Fleet ReservoS provides The long hot days of summer points that beckon swimmers t swallow nests, occasional I The long hot days of summer cause most individuals, young and; old, to seek shade. But fun in the sun can be had, too if the water is there for refreshment refresh-ment and cooling. Red Fleet Reservoir promises just that combination: plenty of sun, plenty of cooling blue water for swimming, splashing, skiing, wave-riding, boating, fishing, tubing, or just lounging on a red rock or sandy beach. An easy drive, just ten miles north of Vernal off Highway 191, this State Park offers day use or overnight camping (up to 14 days). The facilities include a small sandy beach, boat launching ramp, rest rooms, campsites, covered picnic pic-nic tables, and fish cleaning and sewage disposal stations. Local residents enjoy the easy access for a day's play in the water on easy-to-carry tubes or floats. Summer water temperatures in the high 60s make swimming refreshing and the sand warmth welcome. Camping spots for RVs allow boaters to enjoy the comforts of their camper for resting from water sport activities. Red Fleet has been praised by some enthusiasts as being like "a little Lake Powell," because of the red slick rock, sparse vegetation, rock formations, for-mations, tapestries and blue water. There are even the similar tiny cave-like openings that make one think that "the little people" may have ventured ven-tured between the two bodies of water. Red Fleet has the rock Library Board By Elizabeth Goode Express Writer The Uintah County Lijrary Board Wednesday diseased the purchase of boos in response to the many requests from patrons. Library Director Dr. Bruno takes the requests serious, he said. He described the selection processes he uses for clposing the purchases: "If you check the circulation statistic of all I have purchased," he s3i, "you will see that the new pirchas are being used." He' tries to buy the top popular lems from Publishers Week, nd New York Times, many o'which are nonfiction. He mak selections from a variety of took lists he receives which d'scribe new releases and best sellers for adults and children. Cataloging is on-going. Sonp books have been moved to tie adult stacks from the children's sections because of the ontent. Another continued topic involved accessibility throughout through-out the BasJi. Delivery of books via theMeals on Wheels program would be a possibility to afford home-bound individuals individu-als the opportunity to receive library services. If it works out, the staff could go out with the delivery people to handle the application for library cards; books would be distributed by the five delivery people that distribute meals. It is estimated estimat-ed there night be 20-30 people that could utilize this service. The library staff could also visit the Golden Age Center to assist people with application for library cards. The Book Mobile has provided provid-ed a valuable service to patrons in outlying areas. A letter from the State Library Association indicated that the Association A mrctseo forlffiod Buyers 1. Duchesne County is not able to support their portion por-tion of the Book Mobile, and the School District may withdraw funding, so there is a concern about maintaining the service. Any curtailment would make the opportunity with Meals on Wheels even more inviting. Election of Officers was an agenda item for the June meeting. meet-ing. Mark Foley will complete his term on the Board, but regretfully asked to be relieved of the duties of Chairman. Donna Trotter accepted the nomination for Office of Secretary for another term. Amy Olsen was elected to the open Board Member seat, and Christy Schoenfeld was elected to be the new Chairman. The Library Board regrets the inconveniences and annoyances annoy-ances that have resulted from the upgrade of the Dynix computer com-puter system. The library is undergoing a substantial software soft-ware revision that will be the model for upgrades throughout the nation, and according to Dr. Bruno, "When it is stable, the Uintah County Library will be the envy of all the other libraries librar-ies being updated." Improving the same system sys-tem was predicted to be less expensive and time consuming consum-ing than switching to another operating system. The database data-base had to be migrated from the old to the new system, with the necessary corrections and changes to be made. These tracks are believed to be more than 200 million years old. A sign on Highway 191 indicates the 1.25-mile hiking trail that is somewhat strenuous because of its several uphill and downhill down-hill sections. The best viewing times of the tracks are early morning or late afternoon. The tracks are somewhat difficult to see when the sun is directly overhead." So, why was the Reservoir built in the 1970s called Red FLEET? There is a fleet of three red rock ships to be seen from Highway 191 north of the lake as motorists come down from 'the mountain,' heading toward Vernal. From some spots, the fleet is also visible from the Lake on the other side of the 'ships.' Now, the 'rest of the story' is for the reader to discover. to the Library Staff was based on different parameters, further fur-ther training is scheduled. The Southern University of Utah is also a testing site. "Our goal is to make it better bet-ter and more accessible to the patrons," Board Chairman Mark Foley stated. In order to expedite the trouble-shooting process, Diane Coltharp has been acting as a liaison between Dynix and those who report problems. Patrons may tell her of difficulties difficul-ties they have, so she can check to see if it has been reported; if not, she will forward the details to Dynix. One of the changes that patrons of the Library need to know is their 14-digit library (barcode) number and that a password is required to use the computers for locating materials. The password for any patron is the last name in lower case (jones). Notices will be posted in the library, and more posting will be done on the web site. Social Security numbers will be purged from the identification identifica-tion system, and a new protocol will be established for standardizing stan-dardizing the field identifiers. These and other steps are being taken to assure that patrons' records are retained with data that does not jeopardize the person's secure identity. The Library Staff and Board voiced apologies for any problems prob-lems that patrons have experienced expe-rienced during this necessary process.
