Show .Vernal Express, 1 ii rv 3 Principal Kathy Hawkins takes part in the presentation by singing and dancing with Kudzidza. Discovery Elementary welcomes Kudzidza Oar- Kudzidza Foundation is a aveling organization that is orking to maintain mutual iucation between the peo- lle of the United States and Zimbabwe. Kudzidza. in the hona language of Zimbabwe means education, and educa-' Hon is exactly what they want to promote. A few members of the Kudzidza Foundation were vis-" iters at Discovery Elementary Tuesday where they entertained enter-tained the students, as well as the teachers, with singing, dancing and drum playing. They involved the students by telling stories and letting them play drums while singing different dif-ferent songs of Africa. The foundation feels the best way to educate America about the cultures cul-tures of Zimbabwe and other African countries is through their dynamic traveling performances. per-formances. They share stories of African culture and teach of the traditional lifestyles of the African people and love to involve their audiences in performances. per-formances. At Discovery Elementary the students were taught to sing one of the African songs repeating repeat-ing after one of the performers. perform-ers. Near the end of the song students were told to do a little dance to show how much fun they were having. After teaching teach-ing the students the basics of the song, and while some were drumming along, the performer perform-er then chose a student from the audience to sing and lead the group in the song. After doing a little dance at the end the singer then took the microphone micro-phone around to another person per-son to lead the song. That was it for the teachers. They were involved from that point on. The performer from Kudzidza took the microphone to one teacher who lead the song and did his little jig at the end. He was then able to choose who was next for the performance. perfor-mance. On and on it went with the students laughing and singing sing-ing hysterically throughout the whole performance. It ended with Principal Kathy Hawkins dancing and singing, and the students laughing and clapping. clap-ping. The next activity was to form a dancing train with the students stu-dents singing the African songs of the performance leaders. The students, teachers and performers perform-ers sang and danced all the way to the end of the presentation. Kudzidza does performances for schools, festivals, etc. and strives to maintain a different show every time. Another of their projects is taking people to rural African villages for two weeks for a chance to enjoy an African experience.
