Frank was the eighth child of 12 born to Benjamin Willard Johnson and Dora Elizabeth Slaugh. Today he and sister Priscilla Bingham are the only two of the children still living, liv-ing, and they both reside at the Uintah Care Center. As a boy, Frank's job was to herd the cows and sheep in the hills nearby near-by their home. Frank was still living at the old homestead when he married his sweetheart, Katie Merle Smuin, Dec. 11, 1930. He brought his bride home to live in one room of his parent's home. His mother gave them a bed and they had a table and two chairs. Frank made them a cupboard out of a wooden orange crate and they lived in this room until their first daughter was born. Zelph also raised fish to sell and Frank helped with this every fall for nearly 15 years. They would seine the fish to catch and dump them into a pickup and then haul them to Vernal where they would have a crew to clean and package them. Fishing has always been one of Frank's loves. His family wryly remembers watching him tie a gunny sack to his belt and wade into the Green River where he fished sometimes until midnightor until all the kids were crying to go home. "We ate lots of fish," one daughter laughs. The Johnsons raised a large garden gar-den and Frank was always willing to share with anyone who happened along.
