Show Vernal Express Wednesday, February 4, 2004 Juvenile Drug Court to close "We were very grateful for the funding we had," says Chief Probation Officer Ron Tollefson of the Juvenile Drug Court. Juvenile Drug Court has closed its doors now that funding has run out for the program. During the nearly year and a half that the program serviced the area, roughly 18 youth completed the program. Those who were in the program at the time of the funding crunch have been picked up by the Probation Department who will follow their progress until they fin- ish their individual programs. Positive reports have been made by parents who were grateful that their child was part of the program and for the follow through that the officers provided each participant. Participating youth reported that among the things they had learned was that they really could do without with-out the use of drugs, and that they had to change friends to stay away from drugs. Some youth and their parents are completing the parenting classes at North Eastern Counseling that was part of the program. Tollefson says the program covered cov-ered both Uintah and Duchesne counties, and this was the first time that the program had been used in the Eighth District.
