Eva was bom March 9. 1910 in Maeser, daughter of the late John Luther and Elia Ellen (Holy oak) McConkie. The house she was born in became a stable for the horses after their new home was built. When she was about six years old she rode on a wagon with two of her brothers tu haul some trash. While they were emptying the wagon, something spooked the horses and they ran away with her still in it. The horses ran over some poles that caused her lo be thrown off the wagon and it broke her hip and jaw. She suffered a lot of pain the rest of her life from her hip injury. Eva lived across the street from the church and her mother cleaned it and washed the glass sacrament cups and tablecloths for $10 a month. If her mother was ill or couldn't do it, Eva did the work for her. After Eva finished elementary school in Maeser, she went to Uintah High School in Vemal. There were no buses in those days so most of the friends her age rode horses to school. One time riding to school, her saddle was loose and as she went around a comer, the saddle turned and she w as under the belly of the horse. A friend jumped off his horse and helped her back on the horse. She found whenever a saddle was put on that horse it would expand it's belly so the cinch wouldn't be tight. Another time her horse slipped on the ice and fell FREE for Medicare Recipients October 12-18 LJ 41 S. Vernal Ave. M Carl Gardiner Hughes Murray, Georgia Ann Hughes Goodrich.
