OiOO During the Christmas season most of us get involved in the giving giv-ing of gifts to one another. These gifts are not usually given to someone some-one just because they have given something to us. But most of us get into the spirit of real giving and give gifts to people in the true sense of what a gift really is. A true gift is one that is given to someone out of a heart of love with no strings attached, at-tached, whether they have given us anything or not. For example, it's obvious that when we give gifts to our children, that none of them are really worthy to receive them if those gifts are based on whether they've been good or bad. We give them gifts anyway, because w e love them. This is the true spirit of Christmas giving because it s God's kind of giving. God is the greatest giver of all because he has given us his son. None of us merit or deserve God's favor or blessings in any way because be-cause we have all sinned against him and deserve his wrath and punishment. pun-ishment. In spite of that, God gave his son to suffer and to be judged for all our sins on Calvary so that we could have the gift of salvation. The gift of Bible salvation includes receiving eternal life and the forgiveness for-giveness of all our sins. There's a catch though, it must be received before a person dies or not at all. That's what the Bible says, "today is the day of salvation." The Bible says that salvation is also only received by trusting in Christ and his sacrifice apart from any works we can do or any church we can join. It's a common misconception miscon-ception that only those w ho are worthy shall receive this gift That would be a contradiction of terms. If you could live a better life or keep the commandments to become . worthy to receive it, then it would no longer be a free gift It would be Custom Framing &Art Scrapbooking Blinds Florals 781-1227 450 N. We must admit to God that we an totally lost and unworthy because of our sin to receive God's salvation. salva-tion. No matter how hard we tried, none of us could ever be worthy enough to deserv e it Jesus said ha came, "to seek and to save thai which was lost." Romans 4:5 says, "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." Those that are hoping to gail eternal life by doing good works will sadly be disillusioned. The Bible says that salvation is a gift and cannot be gained through out efforts or works. "For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of your selves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast." It also says, "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord" What a wonderful gift God has offered to mankind through Christmas and Calvary. I've nevef heard a child say to his parents at Christmas, "I can't accept this gift unless you let me work to help receive re-ceive it." But that's exactly what some par ents are saying to God when they refuse to believe that they can be saved completely and receive the gift of eternal life in the presence of the Father through trusting in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ apart from any works they can do. Of course a gift is no good to yon unless you personally take it and unwrap it for yourself. Why not receive re-ceive the greatest gift of all this Christmas season by trusting in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. It will change your life now and for all eteraitv. |
