Show 8 Vernal Express Wednesday, August 30, 1995 Obituaries Hatch dies in SLC hospital Ruih Allrcd Hatch, 72, of Vernal, died Aug. 22, 1995 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. She was bom Aug. 26, 1922 in Altonah, a daughter of Daniel Warren Allrcd and Edith Kirby Allrcd. She married Jerry T. Hatch June 21, 1972 in Elko, Ncv. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper and a bank teller for the Bank of Vernal and also a homcmakcr. She was a member of Glincs 5ih Ward. A former for-mer member of Eastern Star. Ruth enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and working in her flower garden. She loved making ceramics and traveling and was an excellent homcmakcr. She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters. Ruth is survived by her husband, Jerry T. Hatch, Vernal; daughters, Sharon Pope, Orcm; Mrs. Karl (Andrea) Fleming, Vernal; and Mrs. Michael (Glcnna) Tunncll, Orcm. 20 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Aug. 26, 1995 with Bishop S. Michael McPhetcrs conducting. The family prayer was offered by Dallas Wall with prelude and postludc music provided by Kathleen McKcachnie. The invocation invoca-tion was offered by Lisa Asay with the benediction by Cody Pope. Remarks were made by Bishop S. Howell passes away at AVMC LeOra Mae Bctts Howell, 77 Of Vernal, died Aug. 17, 1995 at the Ashley Valley Medical Center. She was born Dec. 31, 1917 in Payson, a daughter of John Leslie Betts and Effie Mae Robertson Betts. She married Albert R. Howell on Aug. 19, 1940 in Santa Monica, Calif. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS TempleonOct.31, 1948. LeOra worked as a clerk for the May Co. in Los Angeles, Calif, and also as a clerk for the Broadway Store in Century City, Calif, and then attended PBX Receptionist School at West Coast Trades School and worked as a PBX operator for the Broadway Store. She was a very active member of the LDS church and a member of Vernal 9th Ward. She was an avid primary worker, serving both in the presidency and as a teacher. She loved children. She served as a relief re-lief society visiting teacher for many years, was active in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and loved working with the boys. She was librarian li-brarian in the Spanish Fork Library and also the church library. She was a member of &z Daughters of Utah Pioneers. LeOra loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was a very kind and compassionate person, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. grand-mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, on Dec. 2, 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann, and husband, E. Allen Thorsen, Salina; son, Daniel Roy and wife, Peggy L. Howell, of Vernal, and grandchildren: Scott A. Thorsen, Tammy L. Howell, Sherrie L. Howell, Rebecca Thorsen, Blake D. Howell, Brian D. Howell and Ronnie Robertson. Brothers and sister: sis-ter: Helen Bronson, Phoenix, Ariz.; Burnell Betts, Ingle wood, Colo, and Carl Betts, Salt Lake City. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 22, 1995 at the Vernal 9lh Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Floyd Collett conducting. Allen Thorsen, son-in-law, offered the family prayer with prelude and postlude music by DeEttc Spencer playing selected Primary songs. Scott Thorsen, a grandson, gave the invocation. Pallbearers were Cody Pope, Lance Pope, Cory Pope, Chad Pope, , Quincy Tunncll, Cole Hatch, Brian Fleming, Jonathan Eeming and Jacob Fleming. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary with the dedication of the grave by Michael Tunnell. Jamie Weeks and Bill Cook sang "My Mother's Hands" accompanied by DeEtte Spencer. Further remarks were given by Carl Betts, a brother, and the poem "Friends" was recited by Ryan Aycock. A final musical, "Love One Another," was sung by Kathy Laris, accompanied by Jamie Weeks. The benediction was offered by Ronnie Robertson, a grandson. Pallbearers were Scott Thorsen, Brian Howell, Carl Betts, Blake Howell, Bob Russell, Burnell Belts and John Eskelson. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Thorsen, Ronnie Robertson, Dick Robertson, Dee Ray Robertson, Ryan Aycock, Rex C. Bronson and Worth Jensen. Interment was in the Payson City Cemetery under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. He was born to William and Lcona Neal Schaefermeyer on June 25, 1914 at the old homestead near the Dinosaur. Quarry where his father worked for Dr. Earl Douglass. He married Mcrla Rae Mcacham July 18, 1950. They were later divorced. di-vorced. He and his twin sister, Pearl, were delivered by Pearl Douglass, midwife, without a doctor, doc-tor, so they were named Earl and Pearl after the Douglasses. They were the fifth and sixth children of the family of eight children. Earl lived most of his life on the old Schaefermeyer home in Maeser. He was always very busy working and building many projects. He loved the outdoors and liked talking to people and walking and exploring ' the mountains and fishing.
