Many of those who were evacuated stayed at an IDS Church with a friend or families. Fire fighters who responded to the scene had to watch the tank burn as it was feared that additional explosions explo-sions might occur. The fire died down the next morning after workers work-ers shut off the fire's fuel supply. Five of nine liquid propane gas tanks were destroyed. Truck loading facilities were damaged. One of four iron sponge towers (pressurized (pressur-ized vehicles to remove hydrogen sulfide) suffered minor damage. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, said Sally V. Allen, vice president of Gary-Willaims Gary-Willaims Energy Corporation. OS-HA OS-HA investigators from Houston be gan inspecting the tanks Monday. Damage has been estimated at $500,000. Two gas plant employees were at the scene at the time of the explosion. The plant is now shut down, but repairs are underway. Operation is expected to resume in four or five days. The Bluebell plant, with a capacity capaci-ty of 23 million cubic feet per day, processes natural gas gathered by pipeline from connected fields. Propane and butane mix are extracted extract-ed from the natural gas, sold at the plant and distributed by tanker truck or pipeline. The residue natural gas is sold into pipelines for further distribution. dis-tribution. GWEC has operated the Bluebell and the nearby Altonah fractionating fractionat-ing facility since the early 1970s.
