Show Boys and girls both finish 3rd Harrier squad runs into two state powers Vernal Express Wednesday, August 31, 1994 21 .'I The Ute Harrier squad traveled to Green River last Friday to compete in the tough Green River Invitational and as expected ran into some very stiff competition. "Green River is always one of the most competitive teams we face year in and year out," head coach Marlon Stagg said. Stagg went on to say Uintah can gain a pretty good idea of how competitive they will be during the season by their results against Green River. This year, as in past years, the Ute squad finished right behind the Wyoming team, but the finish was only good enough for 3rd place this time. Powerful Brighton, a 5A Utah team also entered the Invitational and to everyone's surprise, dominated dominat-ed the 3.1 mile meet. "Brighton did to Green River what Green River usually does to everyone else," Stagg exclaimed. Brighton finished with just one point over a perfect score of 15, finishing fin-ishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th. Green River took it from there on the boy's side with their runners finishing fin-ishing 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th for a score of 40. Uintah's team, led by Jeremy Tolman's 10th place showing totaled to-taled 87 points for their 3rd place finish. Tolman's time of 17:32 was actually faster than last year's time in this same event. Jeremy went on to finish 2nd at state last year. The next Ute to finish was Corey Enloe with a 17th place showing and a time of 18:40. Right behind Enloe was Ryan Dart in 18th place with an 18:42. Freshman Jeremiah 0' Crowley finished 20th with a time of 18:51 and was followed in by Steve Murphy in 22nd place. On the girl's side, Carrie Barlow led a spirited Lady Ute effort by finishing fin-ishing 2nd overall with a time of 21:44, which was considerably quicker than her showing last year. Jennifer Murray finished 7th overall with a time of 22:28. Andrea Whiting was the next Lady Ute to timsh with a 9th place finish and a time of 22:58. "Considering the level of competition competi-tion and all the young runners we have this season, we did an excellent excel-lent job up there," Coach Stagg said, "when we get back to full strength on the boy's side and bring along some of the freshmen on the girl's side, this team will be very competitive with anyone on the 3A level." The team's next match will come September 8th (Thursday) when they travel to Park City to compete in the Region 10 Pre-Region Meet.
