The students have been attending the nursing program in Roosevelt at the USU Education Center. L .. CLASS OF 1935 from Uintah High School met this month for their News from Manila by Clara Robinson 784-3463 Daggett schools begin new year Schools in the Daggett School District started on Monday, Aug. 24. Total enrollment for the three schools is 217. There are ninety-seven ninety-seven students at the high school building which includes the junior high and high school levels. There are 83 students at Manila Elementary and 37 at Flaming Gorge Elementary. Daggett District welcomes five new teachers to their staff. Ron Kelsey will be teaching the sixth grade at Manila. Bart Manning will be teaching English, physical education edu-cation and will also be coaching; Charles Mahler will be teaching social so-cial studies; and Kathy Erickson, art, all at the high school. Monica Selwetz will be teaching the fourth and fifth grades in Dutch John at Flaming Gorge Elementary. The M and L Homemakers club held its annual steak fry at Palisades at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 20. Eleven people attended including members' mem-bers' partners. Each member brought her own family's meat and a pot luck dish. Dessert and drinks were furnished by the hostesses Ora Iverson, Fon Slagowski and Peggy Briggs. The party was at her home on Aug. 22. All three of Mrs. Beck's children, Duane Beck, McKinnon; Jeannie Earl, Logan; and Joyce Briggs, Selah, Wash, and their families celebrated cel-ebrated with their mother. Mrs. Beck has been an avid crafts person, is very artiste and loves to garden. This year she won a sweepstakes sweep-stakes ribbon for her strawberries during the Sweetwater County Fair. Over the years, Mrs. Beck has earned many ribbons. Her blue ribbons rib-bons have been made into a skirt for a large stuffed dog. Guests at the party were asked to guess how many ribbons actually were in the skirt. Candice Potton won as there are 199 blue ribbons in the skirt. People came to help celebrate her birthday from all over the Western U.S. Elder David Briggs, son of Bishop and Mrs. James Briggs spoke during dur-ing the Manila LDS sacrament meeting on Sunday. Aug. 23. Elder Briggs served two years for the LDS Church in the Japan Okayama Mission. Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Gus) Greenhalgh and their children, Douglas and Jay of Washington, D.C. are spending time at their summer sum-mer home in Manila. While in Manila, they are visiting with Ron's mother, Mrs. Fern Ferrere, and other oth-er relatives besides sightseeing and having family picnics. Lee Coleman suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital a week ago. He is home again and reported re-ported to be doing well. A new great-grandaughter for Stanley and May Lynne Hoopes, Samantha Sue Rogers, daughter of Andrea Holliday Rogers and Jared Rogers. She was born Aug. 13 and weighed 5 pounds 5 ounces. It is reported re-ported that both mother and daughter daugh-ter are doing fine. Samantha was born in Snowlow, Ariz. Miss Rogers is Stanley and Mary Lynne 's third great-grandchild. Stewart and Becky Morrill, with Sterling and Kimberlee of Kaysville, spent three days with VaLois Morrill, attending Grandma Delma Long's 90th birthday celebration. cele-bration. Richard and Stephanie Kitchen, nephew of LaRae Moosman, with their three children, of Springville, visited the John Moosmans and camped in Whterocks Canyon. The Moosmans spent Friday with them in the canyon. On Saturday, John and LaRae Moosman traveled to the Jordan River Temple to attend a Temple ceremony. On Sunday the Moosmans drove to Richfield to attend at-tend a missionary farewell. Friday, Aug. 14, 20 members and two teachers and spouses attended a smorgasbord and program at the 7-11 7-11 Ranch restaurant. On Saturday morning, Aug. 15, they met at the Searle pavilion for brunch and reminiscing. rem-iniscing. Scott, son of Robert and Sandra Scott, returned home on leave from the United States Air Force. He completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Following basic training, Airman Scott went to school at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss, to train as an information specialist. He will be stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Mountain Home, Idaho. Republican party hosts Meet the Candidates night Nell Heeney, Uintah County Chairperson for the Republican party, par-ty, announced that there will be a Meet the Candidates night and ice cream social.
