As many as 51 stations are broadcasting broad-casting two 30-second and two 60-second 60-second spots this summer that are designed to make the public more aware of the industry's contributions contribu-tions to the state. One ad, called "Thank You," salutes fictional tourists like Joe and Ida Johnson of Northridge, CA, the Antrums of Phoenix, and Fran and Joe Watson of Alabaster, NY for contributing "$2.3 billion a year to our economy," according to the ad. "And then they go home," continues contin-ues the commercial. "We'd like to thank them for doing both." Another ad points out that "tourists pay over $154 million in state and local taxes every year." Those funds, says the ad, "help pay for things like schools and roads. And the. best part is, that money comes out of someone else's pock-eL pock-eL Not yours," says the ad. The commercials are part of the Utah Travel Council's 1991 warm weather ad campaign. In exchange for a $12,000 contribution to the Utah Broadcasters Association (UBA), the Travel Council is receiving re-ceiving a minimum of $48,000 worth of air time on the UBA's member stations. "The ads will be a big help in building support for the state's tourism industry," says Travel Council Director Jay C. Woolley.
