Here are a few reasons that I hope will persuade you to enroll. Soccer is hard to beat for good aerobic exercise and the development develop-ment of the physical aspects of our children. Like basketball the participants partici-pants arc or should be moving all the time. It is a much better sport than say baseball for development of cardio-vascular-rcspiratory system. sys-tem. I heard DYU football coach LaVcli Edwards and University of Utah coach Foscl discussing kids involvement in football. It was their feeling ihat boys should not be playing play-ing football until the 7th or 8th grades and when asked what Uicy .vlunilj be doing before that time, hveer was mentioned as a great Include to football. ; Soccer is a sjxirt where the "liale fan" actually has an aJvanngc. There is really no extra expenditures expendi-tures that parents need make to outfit out-fit their kids for soccer. It may be "nice" to have a pair of clcatcd soccer soc-cer shoes or a regular uniform, but not a necessity. Some parents have been discouraged discour-aged with our soccer program in the valley because the coaches have not given adequate practices or have not been sufficiently skilled in knowing and teaching good soccer techniques. tech-niques. That has been a legitimate complaint com-plaint in some cases in the past. I low-ever, this year coaching clinics arc being conducted and hopefully the program will have enough money mon-ey to buy video tapes that will feature fea-ture the world's best players showing show-ing the moves and techniques that made them great In this way the best coaching demonstrations will be a close as your TV set. Parents arc encouraged to help as assistant coaches to ensure that adequate ade-quate practice sessions arc held. It is suggested that instead of complaining, complain-ing, active participation will help give desired results. Late registration can be completed during tins week by calling Debbie Dean at 7S')457, Registration fees arc SIS with uniform and S30 without with-out a uniform. XrV One week after finishing in the Utah South state finals of the Banbino minor tournament, Vernal got new life when Southwest Pacific Regional officials tendered an unusual invitation to the tournament tourna-ment which is just one step from the Babe Ruth Bambino World Series. In the unusual move, Washington North had to be replaced and Assistant State Commissioner John Tyrrell selected the runner up Vernal Minors as that team. Vernal accepted the bid on Monday, contingent on whether or not the team can be put back together togeth-er after disbanding one week ago following their loss to West Jordan in the final game of the State Bambino Minor Tournament held in Vernal. As the Washington North representative, repre-sentative, Vernal would meet UHS fall schedule Uintah High School Activities Coordinator Rob DcCol announced the fall schedule for high school activities ac-tivities which begins Aug. 24 when the football team kicks off against rival Union high school in the first prc-season game. The tournament was for youth between the ages of 9 and 13. The outlaws consisted of both a younger and older team. . The younger team is coached by Larry Wilcken and the older team by Cody Calder. Each team played four games in the tournament with the younger team finishing with an overall 1-3 mark, their sole win coming by a 2-1 2-1 score against Kaysville. "It was exciting to see the best of the best play," said soccer mom Caudia Donaldson, "As far as I'm concerned our boys are the best. The team and coaches are to be commended for a job well done." The older team also played hard. They often had to fight for the ball and take the upper hand in the games. Even though they fought hard they were never able to gain the advantage. The older outlaws didn't have any wins in the soccer scramble. minor Brighton the Utah North winner on the opening day, and faces the dubious dubi-ous honor of being bracketed with North California against a team from Oakland.
