Show 18 Vernal Expren Wednesday, July 25, 1S90 West Vernall E m Vernal Blue Minors win 2nd Utah So West Jordan survived games with Richfield, Orem Southeast, Delta, and Vernal Blue to win the Utah South State Bambino Minor title and advance to the Pacific Southwest Regional to be held at Hillcrest Union beginning August 4. The Pacific Southwest Regional is just one step from the World Series to be held at Long view, Washington beginning August 11. Vernal Blue, the surprise team of the tournament in only its first year of Babe Ruth action, beat West Jordan 1 in the opener and then lost to Orem Southeast, before rebounding re-bounding with wins over Richfield, Orem Northeast, Orem Southeast, and Delta to gain a spot in the title contest. In the title contest, West Jordan opened with 8 in the first inning and Vernal was set in a catchup role the rest of the game which ended 18-8 in four innings. In the end it was too little, too late for Vcmal which had to move through the tough loser bracket to get to the final game. The winner West Jordan played only three games in five days to get to the title game whereas Vernal and those in the loser bracket had six in five days including a double header the day before the game. Take nothing away from West Jordan, they are a great little team, but give Vernal a days rest and the outcome wouldn't have been so lopsided. lop-sided. After the near disastrous first inning in-ning which Vernal trailed 8-2 in, Vernal made a comeback in the second sec-ond to close the gap to 8-7. I Iowcvcr, West Jordan then promptly prompt-ly answered with 8 more in their half of the inning to open a 16-7 lead which Vcmal never recovered from. West Jordan will not advance to the rcgionals where they will represent repre-sent Utah South against state champions cham-pions from California, Guam, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah North, and Arizona.
