Show 6 Discover Dinosaurland June 22, 1988 Wilderness awaits canoeistadventurer For the adventurer, canoeist or boater, the White River in southern south-ern Uintah County is a mountain just waiting to be climbed. Most people enter the White River at the White River bridge south of the Bonanza gilsonite operation. The White River winds through some of the most beautiful desert scenery in northeastern Utah. The 30-mile trip from the White River Bridge to the Mountain Fuel bridge takes eight to ten hours and many boaters will spend the night among the cottonwoods along the bank to take time to savor sa-vor the trip. Wildlife is plentiful and the trip is usually an easy-going relaxing float down a somewhat muddy river. During the high water season, sea-son, April and May, is the ideal time to make a trip because insect activity is minimal and there is more water in the river. Keeping with the "wilderness" flavor of the river, the weather can change turning a 15-mile half day trip into an all-day affair. By the time the water of the White River reaches Uintah County they are usually muddy in the spring from sand and earth it picks up along it route into the Green River.
