A reception to honor the couple will be held that evening at the Excelsior Hotel in Provo from 7 p.m. -9 p.m. Children's family poster contest announced . Governor Norman Bangcrtcr wants to know what Utah families love to do, and he's asking the suite's children to tell him. Children, ages five through twelve, arc invited to illustrate their favorite family activities, in poster form, during a contest sponsored by the Governor's Advisory Committee on Strengthening the Family. Selected entries will be displayed at a conference on strengthening the family slated for September 17, at Cottonwood High School. The contest con-test winner will receive a cash prize of SI 00, and the winning poster may be used as the cover for the Conference Program. The Uintah County Library (along vw ith Utah's other ncightxKhood public libraries) will serve as the drop-off point for the completed posters, huh must be submitted on 14" x 22 poster paf-cr and may be done in any medium from crayons to collate. Gearing up for big barbecue Members of the Uintah County Search and Rescue arc stirring up their secret recipe barbeque sauces and preparing for the annual Search and Rescue Barbeque which will take place Saturday, July 9 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the Uintah County Courthouse lawn. This marks the third year of the barbeque which helps raise money for the Search and Rescue portion of the Uintah County Sheriff's Department. The previous barbc-qucs barbc-qucs have been known as outstanding outstand-ing successes: ihe food is expertly cooked and the helpings arc definitely defi-nitely "man size." An open house to honor the couple will be held Dinah Sam Club 11 Campout at Big Meadow A weekend campout at Big Meadow, Vernal Ranger District, was held June 17-19 with 20 members mem-bers present. The 500 cookies that were sent to the Utah State Samboree which was held recently in Logan, were greatly appreciated according to President Claudius Banks. The dinosaur pins Claudius distributed dis-tributed were the most popular items. There were 435 rigs attending. attend-ing. By Ada Murray Thursday, June 23, we will be going on our first picnic. We are going to the Whiterocks Fish Hatchery and then to Bacon Park to eat lunch. Lunch will be pot luck. Bring your own dishes to eat on. The van will leave the center at 10 a.m. At dinner last Monday happy birthdays were wished to Reita. Hamblin, Maxinc Hcrsey and Liz Weist.1 Three picnic tables have been donated to the Golden Age Center. Several individuals and businesses donated money and material and a troop of Boy Scouts made them. Jerrod Tolbcrt, one of the Scouts that needed to do a project to cam his Eagle Scout award, suggested doing it. So with the help of the rest of his troop and his father, the project was accomplished and we wish to thank everyone for the lovely tables. The dance Friday night was a big success. Amy Lube was back playing the piano after spending a week in Alaska. Darrcll and Norma Wardlc attended and it was great to sec them. Darrcll even played the drums . for a while. Enola Montgomery was back again after being gone for a year, serving a mission. Happy birthday was sung to Jean Smith. Viola McKclvcy won four games at bingo last Tuesday to take first place. Evelyn Crenshaw and Elsie Husch won three games each to place second. Monday the 27th is the blood pressure clinic at 1 p.m., and on Wednesday the 29th, birthday cakes wdl be given to all those who had birthda) s in June. Edna Wilkins Littleton Edna Littleton to be honored An open house to honor Edna Gilroy Wilkins Littleton on her eightieth birthday will be held Saturday, July 2 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Colton Pavilion. Edna was born July 6, 1908 to Wilma Ainge and Lloyd Gilroy. She married Ezra Harlan Wilkins on Oct 14, 1925. They had seven children: chil-dren: Ervin L. Wilkins, Jensen; Gale Wilkins, Roosevelt; Wilma McArther of Lewiston, Idaho; Lee Wardle of Sandy; Ezra Vaughn (deceased); (de-ceased); two children, Hal and Richard, died at birth. Her husband, Ezra, passed away June 14, 1945. She married Lewis Littleton on Sept 22, 1947 in Price. He died February 10, 1982. The event will take place June 25 at 1 p.m. The Center will provide meat, potatoes and macaroni salads with beverages; those wishing to attend are encouraged to bring a potluck dish. Program offered to Young Naturalists Hike the desert wilderness, discover dis-cover fossils and search for canyon creatures as a young naturalist at Dinosaur National Monument The Young Naturalist Program at Dinosaur National Monument invites in-vites fourth, fifth and sixth graders to participate in an outdixx experience experi-ence every Wednesday. Leila Preece McNaughton Local resident to be honored The children of Leila Preece McNaughton are hosting an open house to celebrate her ninetieth birthday on Friday, June 24 from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the First Ward Chapel in the recreauon hall. Leila was born June 21, 1898 in Magnolia, Ala. to John DeLeon and Olivia Tucker McCoy. She met her husband, Karl B. Preece, in 1918 and moved to Vernal in 1920. They were married July 6, 1920 by Don B. Colton and solemnized the marriage mar-riage on March 30, 1921 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their first child, Reed, was born 11 days later on April 6. Leila has been an active member of the LDS Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was-active in Relief Society teaching. teach-ing. Leila iias a deep belief in the LDS Church and has been active throughout her life in sharing those beliefs with others. In 1951, to help supplement her husband's income, Leila began selling sell-ing "temple" blankets. That year she was able to sell approximately 1500 blankets in the Uintah Basin area. This lead to a career in insurance sales which spanned 16 years. For an additional 12 years, Leila became be-came a salesperson for World Book Encyclopedia. In addition to her other careers, she has been an acu've and ambitious homcmakcr. Her husband Karl passed away in 1964. She married John E. McNaughton, Nov. 11, 1971. She and Karl had six children: Karl R. Prcccc and Charles M. Preece, of Vernal; McCoy Preece (deceased); Karma P. Laagton of Bountiful; Leila Ruth Johnson of Long Beach, Calif.; E. Bruce Preece of Vancouver, Wash. She is a grandmother grand-mother to 25 grandchildren and has 5S great grandchildren.
