Pickup honored for water board service New Ranger for Red Fleet Dam On January 1, Red Fleet Dam became be-came the State of Utah's newest State Park. Formerly under the jurisdiction ju-risdiction of the Bureau of Reclamation, Red Fleet is now an official state park. Paul Dixon, employed em-ployed by the State Park Service, recently re-cently transferred from the Rockport State Park to accept the position open at Red Fleet State Park. Dixon began working for the Division of Parks and Recreation 13 years ago at Bullfrog located on Lake Powell in southern Utah. From there, he was transferred to Utah Lake State Park where he remained until 1983 when the park became flooded. In addition, he has served as a ranger in Wasatch Mountain State Park, Schoficld State Park and Rockport State Park. Dixon remarked that he really liked the Vernal area and looked forward to meeting the people of this region. In addition to his duties at Red Fleet, he will also work at Stcinaker, on the Green River and in the Flaming Gorge area. His duties will include law enforcement, park operation and maintenance and supervision. su-pervision. Part of the duties assumed by Dixon will include implementing improvements for the Red Fleet area. Within 30 days, a new dock will be constructed courtesy of the local unit of the Utah National Guard. At the present time, Dixon is considering the planting of seedless couonwood trees in the camping area; the cottonwoods will provide shade and axe a faM-growlng tree that is indigenous to the area. Dixon and his wife, Dori, with their 16 month old daughter moved into the area three wee Is ago. ' 5 ; - I i f -j f-. j'n! The Uintah Water Conservancy Board recognized one of its former members last week for 13 years of service on the board. LaRuc Pickup represented division divi-sion seven, southwest Uintah County, on the Uintah Water Conservancy Board since Nov. 28, 1975. He also served as a director, representing rep-resenting Uintah County, on the Central Utah Water Conservancy District for six years. For 16 years of the 18 years that he was a member mem-ber of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, he served as chairman. He is currently serving as a mem ber of the Farm Home Administration Loan Committee, a position he has held for 18 years. He was a member of the Uintah County Commission, 1950-52, and has been an advocate for the livestock live-stock industry. He has a successful ranch and livestock operation. He has been a member of the Uintah County Catllcmens Association and serviced two terms as its president. Mr. Pickup was presented a Resolution of Appreciation from the Uintah board. Board member L.Y. Siddoway made the presentation at last Wednesday's regular board meeting. BLM plans annual advisory council tour to Bookcliffs The Vernal District Bureau of Land Management will be conducting Its annual advisory council lour July 7 and 8. The group will be visiting several sites in the Bookcliffs Resource Area. The Advisory Council is a unperson un-person body of private citiens w ho, because of their csrvrusc, training, experience, or interest, are qualified to offer informed advice m the District Manager concerning !-nd management mailers. 'VcntatlTtcatcr BLM seeking Advisory Council members The Vernal District Bureau of Land Management is seeking nominations for persons to fill four positions on the District's Advisory Council. Vacancies will be occurring in the following categories: Renewable Resources, Environmental Protection, Public-at-Large, and Elected Official. Any person or group wishing to nominate someone to the Vernal District Advisory Council should send a letter of nomination to the Vernal District Office located at 170 South 500 East, Vernal, Utah 84078. Any mature, responsible adult living within the District borders may be nominated, but no one should be nominated without first determining that person's willingness to serve, said BLM officials. District Advisory Councils are ten-person bodies of individuals who arc qualified through experience, education, training, knowledge, or interest to provide informed advice to respective District Managers concerning land management matters.
