Harlem Crowns produce laughs in annual battle with Vernal crew The Vernal All-Stars put up a good fight, but the Harlem Crowns came out on top with a 78-72 win in a laugh filled contest at Uintah High School in Vernal, Wednesday evening. The Crowns have been competing in Vernal Ver-nal for a number of years. Harlem Crowns players were Lowe Metters, Northen Shavers, Jeff Moore, Joe . Edwards, Michael Douglas and Herbert Scaife. The Harlem Crowns started the game off with a mighty slam dunk by Shavers for a 2-0 lead, but a goal tending ten-ding call against Douglas tied up the game at 2-2. A through-the-legs pass by Douglas resulted in a basket by Metters for a 6-4 Harlem Crowns' lead. Keller tied up the game at 6-6 with a field goal, but another slam dunk by Shavers gave the Harlem Crowns regulations and if fishing elsewhere, like Steinaker (which also has black bass) make sure you know any variations varia-tions in rules from one lake to another. Another comedy routine consisted of one of the Harlem Crowns tossing the ball out of the double doors next to the hallway, which leads to the wrestling room and small gymnasium, gym-nasium, and forcing the referees to go after it and then locking them out of the gym. A youngster in the crowd let the referees back into the gymnasium. gym-nasium. When the basketball action resumed resum-ed a two point lead was gained by the Vernal All-Stars on a bomb by McNamara. However, the game was tied at 12-12 on another slam jam by Shavers. The Harlem Crowns outscorcd the Vernal All-Stars, 10 to 4, for a first quarter lead of 22-16. Each team received a ten point gift In the second quarter as the score went from 30-24 to 40-34 on a scorckeeping mishap. One of the highlights of the second quarter was a free throw toss by Douglas, who connected on the charity toss while kneeing at the foul line. The second quarter score was 47 to 43 in favor of the Harlem Crow ns. The Vernal All Stars put on a show of their own In the third quarter as they rallied for a 61 59 lead n basket by Buckalew. Buckalew stole the ball from the Harlem Crowns. 3 All Movie Rentals r i T t- V 1 . . . Keller scored four baskets to bring Vernal within four at 57-53. The Vernal Ver-nal All-Stars scored another basket and then a two-pointer by Keller tied up the game at 59-59. Buckalew scored to give the Vernal team a two point lead. Fourth quarter action started with an 11 year old youngster being brought out to the court for a free throw attempt. The Harlem Crowns placed the youngster at the east basket foul line, but turned him around and told him to shot at the west basket. The young basketball player was turned in the right direction and surprised sur-prised the Harlem Crowns and fans when he dropped the baU through the hoop. The Crowns decided to make the youngster a member of the Vernal Ver-nal All-Stars. He dribbled the ball down the court toward the west basket and then the Harlem Crowns put him on the foul line. The young basketballer missed the shot and he was raised to the hoop by Harlem Crowns players and performed a slam dunk. Slam dunking machine, Shavers connected once again for a 61-61 tie end Moore fired in a shot for a 63 61 Harlem Crowns' advantage.
