Manila Elementary School basketball basket-ball traveled to Mountain View, Wyo., on Saturday, March 2 to play In the Elementary School Tournament. The Manila boys won the first game but lost the second game, coming in second se-cond place in the tournament. The boys participating were Justin Archibald, Ar-chibald, Steven Tate, Stewart Leith, Jason Archibald and Ryan Guest. Their coach was Randy Steinaker. Melna Coleman took the oath of office of-fice at the Manila Town office on Feb. 11 before the town meeting held at the Senior Citizens Center the same evening. even-ing. Preceptor Pi has music trivia The Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met for its first meeting of the month on Tuesday, March 5 at noon at the home of Theda Murray. A luncheon was served by the hostesses, Theda Murray and Kathy Ingram, to the nine members present. After the Opening Ritual was recited, President Theda Murray conducted con-ducted the business portion of the meeting. The Cultural Program was entitled "Music and a Musician" and Theda Murray conducted a musical trivia game. This game tested participants' knowledge on all music types and well-known well-known musicians. The next meeting will be at the home of Kathy Ingram March 19. Members will be notified if there is any change. Closing Ritual was recited and all members joined hands for the Mizpah. The door prize was won by Gerri Voyles. Progressive Arts support library The Progressive Arts Club met at the home of Betty Jean Ufford Wednesday, March 6. Elouise Turner was co-hostess for the evening. Special guests were Lula Stewart and Mr. and Mrs. Evan Baker. Mr. Baker explained the library construction construc-tion project. He had charts showing the changes that are being made and explained the new computer and security systems that will be put in use with the completion of the remodeling. Most of the volumes are now on the computer and are ready to be checked check-ed out through the security system by the patrons. The next meeting of the club will be Wednesday, March 20 at the home of Mrs. Vonneal Madsen with Mary A. Schaefermeyer as co-hostess. The town of Manila recently received receiv-ed a letter telling that the 1985-86 Community Com-munity Development Block Grants Regional Review Committee has awarded the town of Manila $29,446 for its storm drain project. The town Is very pleased to receive this grant. The project will be ready to go in June. Manila High School drama class presented "See Glimses, A Celebration Celebra-tion of Young Talent," on March 4 in Dutch John and on March 6 in Manila. This was a series of playlets mainly dealing with the problems and frustrations frustra-tions young people have. These playlets were written by high school students in Louisville, Ky. They were well portrayed. Some w ere about older people and the way they had reacted to their problems. Aerobic dancing is held at 9 a.m. until un-til 10 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Manila JDS recreational recrea-tional hall. Alita Ellsworth Is the Instructor. Manila High School has postponed the Junior iTom from March 9 to March 30 at the Manila High School gym. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grrg Gosar this weekend was rYances Chapman of England. Salinda Anne Gross Amos Jacob Merkley DACE BILLINGS has been chosen as his school representative represen-tative at Honors Chorus. Dace Billings in Honors choir Dace Billings, son of Arvin and Jeanette Billings, formerly of Vernal, Ver-nal, and grandson of Eldon and Dez-zie Dez-zie Billings of Vernal has been selected to participate in the Junior High National Honors Chorus being held in Salt Lake City March 7, 8 and 9. Dace is one of five youths who were chosen from taped auditions as a representative of the State of Wyoming Wyom-ing in the Northwest division competition. com-petition. Over 1,300 tapes were entered nationwide with 245 picked to attend the gathering in Salt Lake Ci ty. Dace has a 3.7 GPA and is active in the music department at Davis Middle Mid-dle School in Evanston, Wyo. In 1981 he was in the childrens' chorus of the Utah Opera Company's "La Boeheme", has been a member of the Davis Middle School choir and swing choir, is 1st trombone for the 8th grade band and has been in the Jazz Band for two years. He is looking forward for-ward to participating in the music activities ac-tivities at Evanston High School next year. He has worked closely with the school vocal teacher, Linda Thompson Thomp-son and his voice teacher, Beth Schurfee to learn various music pieces which have to be memorized.
