Orchestra to provide music for 'Camelot' Preceptor Pi Ten members of the Preceptor Pi chapter met at the home of Helen Bennett Ben-nett on March 20. President Eveyln Herbst presided. Election of officers were as follows : president, Theda Murray; vice president, presi-dent, Juanita Oden; recording secretary, Priscilla Searle; corresponding correspon-ding secretary, Evelyn Slaugh; treasurer, Carolyn Johnson; extension officer, Evelyn Herbst; city council rep., Doris Kindt; alternate rep., Kathy Ingram. Following the business session, program pro-gram chairman, Doris Kindt introduced introduc-ed Helen Bennett who presented "The History of Sewing." Dessert was served serv-ed by the hostess. The next meeting will be April 3 at the home of Gerri Voyles. On St. Patrick's Day several members joined the patients at the Vernal Nursing Home for a visit. Juanita Olden was in charge of the get-to-gether. Special name cards were given to the patients. With Theda Murray Mur-ray as pianist, an Irish sing-a-long was enjoyed. Juanita Olden furnished the special St. Patrick's Day cookies and Evelyn Herbst furnished the delicious punch. The chapter presented the patients a Shamrock plant. The Uintah Basin Community Orchestra Or-chestra will provide the instrumental music for the musical "Camelot" which will open April 6 in the Uintah High School Auditorium. Wayne S. Millett, music instructor at Uintah High School will conduct the orchestra in such time-favored songs as "Camelot", "I Wonder What The King Is Doing Tonight", "If Ever I Would Leave You", "The Simple Joys Of Maidenhood", and "How To Handle A Woman". Conductor Millett is no stranger to music or to the stage. A native of Roosevelt, he is the son of Merrill and Shirley Millett. He received an associate degree in music from Ricks College before going on to USU where he graduated magna cum laude in Music Education. After he graduated from college, he taught one year at Moab High School as the Music and Drama Coach before joining the Uintah Uin-tah High School teaching staff last fall. In Moab he directed "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" and "Arsenic and Old Lace" and starred as Don Quxiote in Moab's community production produc-tion "Man of La Mancha" last year. Mr. Millett began his musical career on the piano before he started school and continued it throughout his school years. He has won many awards for his music as a vocalist and on the piano. He made his debut as a performer per-former as Rolfe in the Uintah High School performance of "Sound of Music." He played Billy Bigelow in "Carousel" and BobEwell in"To Kill a Mockingbird" before he went to Ricks College where he played in "Shannandoah" and "Yeoman Of The Guard." He also was a featured performer per-former in a Gilbert and Sullivan Musical Revue. At USU, he was the musical director for "Bells Are Ringing". Ring-ing". He played Henrick Eggerman in "Little Night Music". He was in "The Music Man" and directed the USU Children's Choral. Of the music of Camelot, Mr. Millett has this to say, "The music is one of the high points of "Camelot." The story is very romantic, but the romanticism roman-ticism of the music greatly enhances the story. One of the challenges of the orchestra is feeling the music. The tempo changes very rapidly from measure to measure so it's a challenge to stay together. "We have some excellent musicians in the orchestra, and it's been very rewarding to me to work with them and see their talents come together into in-to something we can be proud of," stated Mr. Millett. The orchestra is composed of twenty-three musicians. Curtis May, violinist is one of the long-time community com-munity orchestra musicians. He has been involved in many community productions and is president of the' Community Concert Association. He has been involved in many community communi-ty and church productions. He and his wife Arlene have six children. Debra Bellon, violinist is originally from California where she began her musical training in the high school orchestra. or-chestra. She has played in many orchestras or-chestras and ensembles since then. Katherine Domgaard, violinist, is originally from Provo. She began her musican career in the Provo schools and has been a violinist with the Uintah Uin-tah Basin Community Orchestra for the last twelve years. She is married to Commissioner Neil Domgaard and lives in Roosevelt. Barbara Hamblin, violinist, is from Salt Lake. She began violin lessons in the third grade, She has been a member of the orchestra for several years and has eight children. Mary Lee Burton plays viola in the orchestra this year. She has been involved in-volved in community musical affairs for many years. This excellent musician musi-cian was assistant director for "My Fair Lady" two years ago. Rhonda Larson, cellist, is a member of the Uintah Youth Orchestra. She played cello for the Messiah in December. She has been playing the cello since she was in the third grade. Mike Alessi plays string bass. He has been one of the most active supporters sup-porters of the orchestra for many years. Sandra Simper plays the flute. She has been playing the flute for ten years and the piano for three. Laylene Rich and Darcy Kimbrough play clarinet in the orchestra. They are members of the Uintah High School Band. Julie Gudmanson plays the oboe. She was a member of the BYU Symphony Sym-phony Orchestra, Mormon Youth Symphony and the Win Ensemble and Philharmonic. Lamoht , Anderson plays the trumpet. He is the band leader at Roosevelt Junior High School and is married and has four children. Gary Moore plays the trombone and has also played in concert bands and dance bands in high school and college. col-lege. Maralee Palmer plays the French horn. She began playing in the fifth grade. She will tour Europe this summer sum-mer as part of an all-American band called "America's Youth In Concert." Dayne Medlyn also plays French horn. He is a student at Union High School. Laura Hacking and Cyndie Foun-taine Foun-taine have been acting as rehearsal pianists. They will join the orchestra in concert this year. Laura has served serv-ed USU Community Theatre musical productions as pianist for the last five years. Her skill at the piano has helped chorus members and leading men and ladies and orchestra members perfect their music for the show. Laura is also the accompanish for Showtime USU. She graduated from BYU in Elementary Elemen-tary Education. She is married to Roger Hacking and they have seven children. Cyndie Fountain is a talented musician musi-cian who grew up and participated in music and the Youth Symphony in the San Francisco Bay area of California. She has been involved as a musician or a cast member in several shows in the last five years. The Community Orchestra has worked many hours to provide local musical productions with excellent music. Their last performance was the Messiah in December.
