Show Wed/Thu, July 1-2, 2009 The Park Record Park City draws star snowboarders Submitted by PC Snowboard Academy The Park City Snowboard Academy is excited to announce the commitment of young snowboarding stars Hans and Nils Mindnich to the academy for next season. Both Hans and Nils are rising snowboard talents out of Stowe, Vt., located in the heart of the Green Mountains. Both have decided to attend the Park City Snowboard Academy in Utah in an effort to help push their careers to the next level. "1 am really excited to be moving out to Park City and having the chance to sharpen my shred skills at PCSA" says Nils. "The pipe and park at Park City are sick and PCSA will really help me continue to learn new tricks" says Hans. "I've kept an eye on Hans and Nils" progress for 3-4 years now and I am really excited they have decided to come to PCSA. Short, who plays scrum half for the Haggis, says the game will be the "premier match" of the day. As the parade filters down Main Street into the City Park area, Parkites are invited to set up camp on the sidelines and cheer their local competitors. Their younger counterparts take the field at 1 p.m., when members of the Park City High School (PCHS) club team go up against the A team from Alpine's United Rugby Club. Although high school rugby was incarnated in Park City only two years ago, Utah is actually a powerhouse at the youth level, says Short, who coaches the PCHS team and serves on the Utah high school rugby executive committee. For the past two years, the same two Utah teams have met in the finals of USA Rugby's National Under-19 Championships. And one of those teams happens to be the United Rugby Club. The matchup promises to be a showcase of some of the best young superstars. Hans and Nils are part of the newest generation of great snowboarders to come out of Vermont." says Andy Coghlan Snowboard Director at PCSA. At a young age, the Mindnich brothers have already put together very impressive resumes in snowboarding. They have appeared in Warren Miller's film "Playground", have won several National Championships in the USASA, placed on the podium at both the US and European Open Junior Jams and have had exclusive editorial coverage in both Transworld and Snowboarder magazines. They both were recently interviewed on Fuel TV's popular amateur action sports show called "New Pollution". Nils is currently a part of the Burton "Smalls" Team and has been featured in Burton's global advertising campaign. Hans is a part of Burton's North American National Team and will begin his second year on the US National Team. Both brothers rugby talent in the state. At 2 p.m., the recently rebuilt Park City Muckers face the Haggis B team, pitting Park City rugby players against each other in a battle for bragging rights. Two years ago, the original Muckers combined with Salt Lake City's Haggis team to form an elite Division I squad. High school standouts return to the pitch at 3 p.m. for a contest between the Davis County rugby team and the United B team. "Davis County has a fairly new team with great community support," explains Short. "Their program is really on the up and up; in the years to come, I'm sure we'll be seemg a lot more of them." Starting at 4 p.m., spectators, players and partiers are all invited to storm the field for a community water fight. "We'll shut things down and give everybody a chance to cool off," says Short. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water guns, balloons and launchers. Following the afternoon cool down, revelers will get their chance to get in on the action. For the first time, the rugby community will host two clinics - one for kids and one for adults - at City Park. On one side of the field, kids ages 6 to 14 will learn how to play touch rugby and engage in a mini-competition. On the B-5 Knead a t dm] ?
