Winter Tourism Tradeshow LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT 1:30 p.m. Event Registration for Speaker Presentation Dear fellow members, As President of your association for the past four months, it has been my pleasure to work with our Board of Directors, members, and officers on a variety of projects. Since early July, our meetings have had full agendas covering a variety of topics of importance, to not only the operation of the Chamber/Bureau, but to the overall business climate of Summit County, as well. Just a couple of the items we have been involved with are Open Space acquisition and its importance to our image as a destination, and the People's Health Clinic and working with them to promote an equitable contribution formula for businesses wishing to subsidize patient visits. Also, our Board has been involved with discussion relating to this season's marketing plans, a partnership with the City on a special events staff person, and the concept of forming a transportation management association. AH in all, I am pleased to see so many items coming before our Board in just the first four months of this fiscal year. Over the next couple of weeks, our staff will attend many consumer tradeshows to promote our winter vacation product and produce a local job fair and a half-day tourism symposium for the benefit of our members. I believe that our Board members and staff have done a great job this year and will continue to do so in the months ahead. Best wishes, Bob Wheaton, President PARK CITY'S ANNUAL TOURISM SYMPOSIUM HELD NOVEMBER 16 AT THE CANYONS GRAND SUMMIT HOTEL 2 - 4:30 p.m. Industry Speaker Presentation (Cost $10.00) RSVP to Barbara Wainwright at 435-649-6100 • Welcome message from the new director of the Utah Office of Tourism • United States Ski ft Snowboard Association offers updates on the team season for the lead-up to the Torino Winter Olympics • Three Park City ski area presidents offer a sneak peek for the upcoming season with a G8tA. • SKI Magazine/Mountain Sports Media discusses Park City resort rankings for this year and industry highlights for the winter • Official welcome to Rossignof/Quiksilver as they establish a new mountain center in Park City The Chamber/Bureau presents its annual Tourism Symposium November 16. COMMUNICATIONS TEAM HITS THE 2005 Park City Job Fair: November 9 at The Yarrow Hotel ROAD TO PITCH PARK CITY STORIES In early October, Communications Manager Craig McCarthy teamed up with Ski Utah and the Salt Lake Convention ft Visitors Bureau for meetings with journalists in Houston, Austin, and Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. The trip included appointments with major newspapers including the Houston Chronicle and The Dallas Morning News. Craig then traveled west to San Francisco for a series of appointments with several Bay Area publications. The high level of interest in Park City in California led to successful meetings with publications such as Sunset Magazine, The San Francisco Examiner, and The San Jose Mercury News, among others. While in the area, he represented Park City at a North American Snowsports Journalists Association (NASJA) Trade Show in San Mateo. NASJA is a professional organization of more than 300 journalists who report on winter sports and related topics. For the first time, Hilary Reiter and public relations representatives from the three resorts traveled to Florida, a growing market for Park City. They met with travel editors at newspap.ers and magazines in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Tampa, and Orlando. Freelance writers were invited to a special media dinner in South Beach to learn more about Park City's offerings. The Park City learn was pleased to find much enthusiasm for our product, given the high numbers of non-stop flights to Salt Lake City and Floridians who ski. One quick result from the trip was a mention of the Quick START program the following Sunday in the annual ski section of the St. Petersburg Times. This fall Reiter and McCarthy continue to travel to Chicago, Southern California, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. to maximize media exposure for Park City., 1910 PROSPECTOR AVENUE Citiride » Transportation Shuttles ft Taxis Ute Blvd. Park City, UT 435-658-2220 / www.citiride.com The Clubhouse (reinstatement) Drop-off Child Care 780 Main Street, Park City, UT ' The Park City Job Fair is being held a week from today!
