Show The Park Record Wed/Thurs/Fri, November 2-4, 2005 A-15 Obituary : The way We Were ~ Ronald Elwood Hansen Beloved husband and father, Ronald Elwood Hansen, age 58, passed away peacefully Oct. 30, 2005-in Provo, Utah. Ron was born Nov. 19, 1946 in Salt Lake City to H. Elwood and Irene Anderson Hansen. He loved his family, especially his granddaughter Morgan. He was also well loved by countless friends that are too numerous to name. He had a special group of fellow horsemen with whom he shared a unique bond "The Posse." Deborah, his wife, and Ron'spent many wonderful times in the mountains with their horses. He was a special, gentle man, filled with thoughtfulness, wit and love for all those close to him. ' He is survived by his loving wife, J. Deborah; cherished chil-, dren, Jacob Hansen and Taylor (Adam) Knight; brothers Phillip, Paul and Kim Hansen; sister Vicki Medley; and granddaughter Morgan Hansen; stepsons, Robert and Daniel Treager; stepdaughter Leslie Keller; and Ronald Hansen numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. F.uneral services will be held on Thursday, Nov, 3, 11 a.m., at the Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 No. Main, Heber. Proprietor. - the American Hotel and Dr. Snyder's office, the firefighters nearly demolished Newell's store in an effort to stop the fire. At about the same time, he and Mulhall dissolved their partnership. Fr,om then on Newell was the sole proprietor of the Park City Meat Market (inset ad). Newell served as city alderman from 1884 to 1888, and in 1889 the community elected him mayor. Five years later, the city again elected him mayor, and renewed his term of office in 1895. He, along with other Parkites, was now a wealthy man and he set up a house in Salt Lake City. Newell was a director of the Silver King (see photo), where he made his fortune. He and his partner Mulhall (first name unknown) were proprietors of the Park City Meat Market. Their early 1880s ads boasted a telephone in the office and "all goods delivered free." In about 1880 Newell married and brought his bride, Rose O'Brien, to Park City. Active in social and community affairs, he was a member of the Masons' Uintah Lodge No. 7 and the Park City Fire Company. Always conscious of the mining activity going on around him, Newell invested in the Sampson Mine and, apparently in the Silver King. His funeral was held under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge and, in his will, he bequeathed half his fortune to the Leland Stanford Jr. University in Palo Alto, Calif. The remainder of his fortune went to friends and relatives, with the largest legacy going to Harry Newell, his adopted son. Today his money continues to fund the Henry Newell Scholarship. The Henry Newell Scholarship is available in the School of Engineering at Stanford University to a student from ,Utah who is in financial need.
