Move I Heber Gun Club to hold fundraiser Youth in Wasatch and Summit counties who are interested in joining the 2006 Heber Valley Gun Club's Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) team are invited lo participate in an exciting "Step-Outside" fundraiser event being held at the club on Saturday. Oct. 15th. Youth who pre-rcgistcr and collect the required number of pledges are eligible to shoot for free and receive free instruction from certified shotgun instructors on the day of the event. Adults are also encouraged to participate in the fundraising by collecting at least CUTTINBSEDIIEFITNESS one pledge and paying a small target fee on the day of the event. The Scholastic Clay Target Program is a youth development program focused on providing young people with a positive experience in competitive sports. The goals of the program include safe and responsible handling, storage of firearms and character and citizenship development through teamwork. The program teaches fair play, compassion, individual responsibility, self-discipline and personal commitment. These are qualities that will serve participants long after they leave the program. Another important goal of the SCTP is to instill a lifetime passion for the shooting sports, both competitively and for recreation purposes. There are three divisions: Rookie Division (fifth graders and below). Junior Division (seventh and eighth graders) and Senior Division (ninth - twelfth grade). There are also skill categories within each division, novice and experienced. Competition is held at state and national levels. Each team member receives a free T-shirt, hat and coaching. Practice rounds at the gun club are always discounted for team members and the cost of the regularly scheduled team practices and competitions will be reduced or completely offset by the money raised at this and other fundraisers for the team. More information aboul the requirements for participating on the Heber Valley Gun Club's SCTP team, including maintaining good academic performance, will be available at the Oct. 15 event. Pre-registralion is required and space is limited.
