Park City's Lindsey Van and twins Eric and Brett Camerota did, as well as many of the nation's top ski jumpers and Nordic combined athletes who will head to the jumping hill at the Utah Olympic Park this weekend for the 2005 International Ski Jumping AutumnFest Continental Cup competition. One step below a World Cup event, the competition will welcome jumpers from 11 different nations. For Van, the U.S.'s top female jumper, the weekend will be one more step in her journey to get women's ski jumping included as an Olympic support for the 2010 Games in Vancouver. She will be battling Norwegians Annette Sagen and Line Jahr, who currently top the standings. Right behind her in the standings is fourth-ranked Jessica Jerome, "another Park City native. Despite battling an infection for the last few weeks, Van says that she feels ready for the challenge. "It's going to be difficult in all aspects," Van said. "Its not going to be easy, that's for sure." Van, a student at the University of Utah is hoping that fans can rise to challenge as well. She has invited family and friends in effort to bring publicity to her sport, which is dependent on exposure in the women's quest for Olympic inclusion. This will be the second time the women have competed in a Contfnental Cup in Park City. Last year's Continental Cup was the first one ever held for women. This year, the focus will be on showing the world and the Olympic brass that the women arc talented and deserving of the opportunity to compete alongside the men in the world's largest sporting event. There will be International Ski Federation representatives on hand serving as officials for the competition, so the women hope to impress with their skill and with the crowds they attract to the event. "[We want] to show that that the women can attract crowds and people are interested in women's ski jumping," said Peter Jerome, father of top-ranked female jumper Jessica Jerome. For the men, the goal is a little different. U.S. ski team members Clint Jones and Alan Alborn A! Within Summit County there are a number of 4H Clubs in Kamas, Oakley and Coalville (Park City members train with Coalville). The clubs are led by volunteer leaders, which help the kids prepare for competitions. The members train once or twice a week, as well as practicing with their horses at home.
