That is more or less the mood of "A Healthy Distrust". Beat poetry, hiphop, politics and deep, personal ruminations. . Sage Francis is a college graduate, suburban-grown, white-boy rapper whose lyrical lalenls and social insights make Hniinem look like the pop-star he is. He is not afraid to speak his mind, but he isn't spending all his lime trying to be controversial. Perhaps the most impressive things about Sage are his honesty and passion. Jim Santy Auditorium 1255 Park Ave. "A Healthy Distrust" contains a wealth of subject matter here to sink one's teeth into. Sage writes about commercialism, demonized welfare, dysfunctional relationships, ihe perils ol' organized religion and art as a form of escapism. 'The surprising thing is that he is such a good lyricist he actually manages to blend all his ideas together in a way that makes sense if you can keep up with him that is. Sage's style, though usually frenetic and explosive, does change to fit the mood of each song. Sometimes it feels like he's talking to you face to face, sometimes he's rattling off complex monologues at a pace that seems barely human.
