Show No cops, no docs, but David's due By JAMS STUART Staff Writer CENTERVILLE They may ! have a little trouble deciding what to put on David Blair Price's birth certificate under 'place of birth.' David's parents, Tina and Brent Price, will never forget how he was bom. Tina and Brent were at their Centerville home with their 2-year-old daughter Bethany. Tina, due to have their second child, decided it . was time to get to the hospital. Tina and Brent, still calm at this time, loaded Bethany into the car-seat of their Chevrolet Cavalier, to take her to grandma's house. About two blocks into the ride, the stop at grandma's was scrubbed. Things were moving faster than had been expected. "I realized we didn't have much time, so we decided to hightail it to the hospital." The next thing Brent heard was Tina saying, "I feel like I have to push." Handling the situation like any good husband, Brent said, "No." 'I have to push," insisted Tina. While this was happening, Brent figured he had better get some help. 1 He pulled his car to the center of a lane and tried to flag down another driver who could call for assistance. "That guy must have thought I was drunk because he pulled away from me and got out of there fast." A contraction had caused Tina to hit the gear shift. Brent hadn't seen the kick and thought the gears of the car had gone out. He pulled to the side of the road, realized the shifter was in neutral, put it in drive, and peeled out as fast as he possibly could. SEE BABY ON A-3 Baby CONTINUED FROM A-l During this, Bethany was sitting in the car seat, calmly commenting on events. "Mommy, the baby is coming. You OK, Mommy? and finally, "Mommy, here comes the baby." Sure enough, as the trio rounded the corner somewhere just past Beck Street on the way to the LDS Hospital, Tina said, "I can feel the head." "One more contraction and Tina just pulled the baby up to her, cuddled him, and we flew the rest of the way to the hospital," said Brent. It had been one of those nights. Brent had driven as fast as the car would move, and no police officer had been around. "I kept hoping a cop would spot us and we would get some help." The doctor was out of town. And, of course, the car's gas tank registered empty. "I didn't know if we would have enough gas to get there or not," stated Brent. 4 'They cut the umbilical cord at the emergency entrance to the hospital while we were still in the car. Then they just took them away," said Brent. As of Friday, Tina, David, Bethany and David are doing fine, but it will be interesting to see what the family decides to list as the place of birth on the certificate. |
