BOUNTIFUL When Boun-tifuls Boun-tifuls Donna Trease was approached approach-ed by the owner of a then-unheard-of perfume company to initiate "parties, she gave in to lend a i hand, temporarily, to an old friend. In fact, the veteran of many years in direct sales is now serving as vice president for Essence International, Inc., with headquarters in South Salt Lake. "I literally tried to run away from working for this company," the typically upbeat, energetic woman says. "However, I was so impressed with the assets of this firm, and with the wonderful opportunities oppor-tunities it offered. Essence is operated entirely differently from other firms with which I have been associated." Donna has 23 years of direct sales experience with a variety varie-ty of companies. " ' Essence duplicates designer perfumes we don't imitate. Anyone can produce a similar product pro-duct since there are no patents on perfumes. However, we have to be at least 99 percent sure that we are capturing the integrity of the perfume per-fume product. ' "Our perfumes must meet the same standards of the top-selling perfumes. The oil base for our perfumes per-fumes is 28 percent, the upper limit being 30 percent. Because of this, our staying power is as strong as the finest, but costs one-fifth as much," Donna explains. "I am very proud of our perfume line. We use no animal byproducts," she emphasizes. ; "We don't use expensive celebrities to endorse our products in extensive advertising campaigns," cam-paigns," she says. "We go straight to our consultants. ' ' Herb Davis started Essence in 1986. He and a friend would fly atound the country delivering perfume per-fume to retail stores and specially-produced specially-produced ' perfume kiosks" in shopping malls. A fire burned the Warehouse to the ground. Following a Chapter 11 reorganization, Davis rimed to direct marketing to rebuild his young business and now has an inventory of more than $2 million. In addition to perfumes, Essence carries a full bath line, men's colognes, col-ognes, and a nail line. ; "We did a lot of research to create a nail line that would be nontoxic," non-toxic," Donna says. "What we Have is a product that working fromen can maintain, is inexpensive and surgically sound. The unique system features adhesive backnails." ; Approximately 3,000 independent indepen-dent contractors work for Essence, with Hawaii and Utah currently the strongest markets of a nationwide rietwork. |
