Vee Reynolds, president of the South Davis Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers dedicated the original gristmill stones monument in Bountiful at a ceremony on Saturday. Reynolds, along with Wylo Reynolds, Cloyd Seeley, Howard Stringham, and Walter Willey, all senior citizens, took part in the construction of the monument which was completed in one month. Gristmill is dedicated Morris Bennion, past president of the national SUP organization, spoke on gristmills in the area where he resides and on the efforts and rewards of the South Davis Chapter in erecting this monument. He then dedicated the monument. The construction of this historic monument was undertaken by the officers of the South Davis SUP Chapter who range in age from 70 to 76 years. It took exactly one month to build the marker. Reynolds remarked, "You should have seen us the day we hauled the rock from the old foundation foun-dation up the hill to the site in r wheelbarrows. Some of the rocks weighed over 200 pounds, and it took a man with a rope pulling the wheelbarrow and a man pushing it uphill. Officers who took part in the construction of the monument were V. Vee Reynolds, president; Wylo D. Reynolds, president-elect; Cloyd D. Seeley, second vice president; Howard B. Stringham, area national vice president and secretary of the South Davis Chapter and Walter W. Willey, treasurer. Several chapter members contributed cash donations dona-tions to cover the construction costs. BOUNTIFUL--On Saturday, June 2 the South Davis Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers held its dedication ceremony for the "Original Gristmill Stones" monument at the site of the Heber C. Kimball Mill, Orchard Drive south of Bountiful High School. V. Vee Reynolds, President of the South Davis SUP Chapter officiated. of-ficiated. Howard B. Stringham, area national SUP vice president, played "God Bless America" after which Charles N. Barlow, program chairman chair-man gave the opening prayer. Reynolds gave a history of the gristmill and the stones which were used in the monument. |
