Show Public pool owners certification seminar set The Davis County Health Department's Environmental Health and Laboratory Division will be accepting registrations for its annual Certified Pool Operator Seminar to be conducted on May 10 and 11 at the Davis County Courthouse. Court-house. The two-day seminar is part of the mandatory licensing procedure required of all public pool owners in the county. The requisite certification cer-tification and licensing offered by the program is valid for three years after its initial issuance. Rand Webb, pool program manager and coordinator of the program, noted that the intent of the seminar is to train pool operators and associated staff in the safeguarding safeguar-ding of pool conditions. "Water quality, the safe handling of chemicals, and the adequate installment in-stallment of fencing are some of the major issues that we address noted Webb. "Our overall goal is to assist pool operators in fulfilling their obligation to the health and safety of their patrons." The mandatory licensing procedure pro-cedure for public swimming pool operators went into effect in November 1986. According to Webb, public pools include both fee operated faculties as well as those being operated by hotels, spas and private clubs. In addition, Webb indicated that residential pools with four or more family owners are designated by the law as public. Webb noted that despite the seminar's emphasis on public pool facilities, residential pool owners are also encouraged to participate. Cost for the registration is $30. Issuance of the certification will be based on successful completion of a post-seminar examination. Optional fee schedules are available for those wishing to audit the seminar.
