Show Bountiful 34th Ward gives gift for the 1 0 Oth birthday -5 "" ' " ' " '.'4.-- . ' jw ' 4 The Bountiful 34th Ward children gather around a truck piled high with garbage collected at Rocket Park. The clean-up project pro-ject was their gift to Bountiful for its 1 00th birthday. By SUE McGUIRE Just as it was time for our Bountiful Boun-tiful 34th Ward Primary quarterly activity, I received a flier in the utility mailing. A question caught my eye: "What are you giving Bountiful for her birthday?" The flier invited citizens to celebrate the Centennial by giving of themselves through service. During Dur-ing a meeting with the other members of our Primary presidencypresident presiden-cypresident Karen Bently, second counselor Nancy Miller and secretary secre-tary Lee Ann Larson I shared the idea of providing an opportunity for our Primary to give a gift to Bountiful. Boun-tiful. After much planning and organizing, 61 children and 21 teachers and parents met at Rocket Park on Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. Elaine S. McKay, our guest speaker, talked for five minutes about the history of Bountiful and the excitement of celebrating the Centennial through giving a gift to Bountiful for her 100th birthday. The children were then divided into age groups classes Star through Merrie Miss B and Blazer B. Under the supervision of teachers and parents, each child received specific assignments and went right to work weeding, raking, sweeping, and picking up rocks and debris throughout the park. In less than an hour we had cleaned and beautified me area and loaded all the garbage bags onto a truck. The event was a wonderful success. As Kristin Hobbs said, "It made me feel better to see what we all had done to make the park look better. ' ' For their service, each child was presented with a beautiful certificate cer-tificate signed by Bishop Robert A. Weddington, Primary President Karen Bently, and Elaine McKay, chairman of the Bountiful Gift Committee. We concluded the event with a picnic under the pines. Children brought sack lunches and the Primary provided a drink and dessert. From comments in Primary and in our own family, I've been impressed im-pressed by the positive results of our effort Christopher McGuire commented, "This project helped me earn my Gospel in Action Award."
