Show Curbside recycling still offered By PAUL CHALL1S BOUNTIFUL Some 311 families have signed up for the voluntary curbside recycling program for Bountiful with Waste Management of Utah, according to Celestia Brunsdale, who is spearheading the effort in the community. "We only need about 289 more families to sign up to be able to begin recycling in Bountiful," she said. "Please talk to your neighbors and be part of the solution. solu-tion. ' Brunsdale and others interested in the new recycling program have been standing on street corners throughout Bountiful and waving to passing cars and have signed several people up with this method. "Lots of people are asking how to sign up, how many containers they will get and how much it costs," Brunsdale said. "Ail residents have to do is fill out the sign up form and send it directly to Waste Management or send it in with their utility bill. Each home will receive a sturdy 18-gallon plastic recycling bin which they will own. Residents will be billed a one time $10 fee for the purchase price of the recycling tin. It will cost $3 for a pickup every other week and they will be billed quarterly," quarter-ly," Brunsdale explained. Another question being asked is whether the bin will smy with the homeowners if they move. "Yes. You can take it with you," she added. Brunsdale said that items being collected are newspapers, corrugated cardboard, tin cans, aluminum cans, and magazines. "If the markets develop, glass and plastics could also be added." She also wants would-be recyclers to know that the recycling bin is maroon in color and looks like a big laundry basket. "As soon as 600 families in Bountiful sign up for curbside recycling, residents will receive a bin and a notice listing the first pickup day," she said. "The notice will also instruct them how the recyclables should be prepared. ' Among the benefits for Bountiful is that Waste Management will return 100 percent of the revenues received from the sale of the recyclable items to Boun-tiful's Boun-tiful's Beautification Fund. Other Utah communities already participating in curbside recycling programs include Farmington, Fruit Heights, West Valley City, Provo and Orem. "It isnt too late to sign up," Brunsdale said. "Now is the time to make a difference and to be part of the solution in making our earth a better place to live. Clip out the sign up sheet and send it in today."
