Show I Seniors bid 'The Pit' farewell r. i I By BRET GALLACHER Sports Writer BOUNTIFUL As the Vikings Vik-ings took the floor Tuesday night, not only were they met by the i visiting Darts, but a spectacle which epitomizes high school basketball. l - The crowd was standing room only, I with rabid fans seemingly inches from the action. The game meant a little more for three of the starters, as they were seeing "The Pit" for the last time. Seniors Andy Jensen, Jason Pitt and John Robison have led their team all season as they have picked up victory after victory en route to a perfect 20-0 record. After the win over Davis, Viewmont View-mont coach Clyde Nelson had high I praise for his graduating starters. "That's where our leadership comes from, each night I can expect j a solid performance from Andy, ! Jason and John. We win because of ! what they do." Robison had another outstanding night against the Darts, leading the ' team in scoring with 21. The ! baskets were timely as well as the guard hit consecutive three-pointers in the opening period to break a tie. The Vikings never trailed from that point "I thought John had one of his best games tonight," said Nelson. "He's definitely the calmer of our team." While Jensen had an off night because of early foul trouble, he was solid on the boards and hit some big buckets down the stretch to keep the Darts at bay. "It's been a fun three years," said Jensen, as he stood in the gym after the victory. "The crowd was just incredible tonight, I can't believe how fast the time has gone. ' ' As for Pitt, one of the best aspects of his game is what he does not know. Ask what he thought of his point total after a game and generally gen-erally he shrugs his shoulders. "I don't think anyone knows, or cares about how many points they score, we're in this as a team." The three seniors take their act to unfamiliar confines next week, as they are the No. 1 seed from region one. "Right now all we are thinking about is the tournament," said Robison. "We know there are a lot of great teams coming, and anyone could win, but our goal is to win state. ' ' |
