Show Primary voters hard to find in Davis Co. By MARK EDDINGTON Staff Writer BOUNTIFUL Even though 2,500 county voters cast ballots in Utah's first-ever . Democratic presidential primary, finding one in south Davis proved to be something of a challenge. An informal Clipper survey of over 60 potential voters at Bountiful Town Center, Five Points Mall, and a Rain bo convenience store, found that only three had actually taken time to vote and two of them were Republicans. One of the Republicans wrote in President Bush and the other cast his ballot for former California Gov. Jerry Brown. "I voted for Brown because I thought he'd lose if he came up against Bush. I thought there was no way Gov. Moonbeam will ever do anything. I've been a Republican for 50 years," said Bountiful resident Bruce Rogers. Finding a Democrat in Bountiful not exactly ex-actly a Democratic strongholdproved difficult Finding one who actually voted was even more so. The Clipper finally located Cassie Manning, a secretary at the Professional Health Center. "I voted for Tsongas," she explained. "I read about him in People Magazine and he sounded like he was a good candidate with a solid economic plan." Manning cast her ballot at Viewmont High School and said she was surprised at the number of voters there. Too Republican, too busy and just didn't know about it were the most common reasons residents gave for not voting in the primary. Then there were non-participants like Brad Ford. "To tell you the truth, I think they're all crooks and they're all worthless. Politicians are all in it for the money and power and don't give a s about others. I guess I have a bad attitude," he said. |
