Show 4 4 oreos will try for annexation By PAUL CHALLIS News Editor BOUNTIFUL Annexation proponents have divided the unincorporated unin-corporated area into four groups to help increase the odds of becoming part of a nearby municipality. Organizers claim the four groups will be attacked separately using four different petitions for annexation. annexa-tion. The four groups consist of: Group 1 area between 3100 and 3400 South and to 400 East and 200 West; Group 2 area between 2900 4 I to 3100 South and 50 West to Orchard Or-chard Drive; Group 3 area between 3100 and 3400 South and 200 West to Orchard Drive; and Group 4 area between 3500 South to the North Salt Lake boundary and Orchard Drive to Highway 89. Proponent Dan R. Lewis said that the northeast portion of the unincorporated unin-corporated area near the gravel pits is not part of the current annexation drive. Group 4 is also a newly targeted area for annexation and was not part of the failed petition in early April. SEE ANNEX ON A-3 Annex CONTINUED FROM A-1 "Opponents have apparently won the battle to remain in the county in a small area east of 50 West and north of 3100 South," Lewis said. 'A large number of residents in that area removed their names from a previous petition causing the total initiative to fail and no one is actively pursuing a signature drive in that neighborhood.' Group 4, near North Salt Lake, might prove to be the final battle ground between Bountiful and North Nor-th Salt Lake, as North Salt Lake officials have said in a recent council coun-cil meeting that the city is interested in the area it fronts on three sides. Petitions need to gamer support from 5 1 percent of property owners living within the four separate neighborhoods before the annexation annexa-tion process could take place, which includes public hearings on the matter. Davis County has stayed neutral during the battle over annexation to a municipality in the south end of its jurisdiction and remains committed com-mitted to continue present services to the small island of unincorporated unincor-porated land if the incorporation does not succeed. The last effort to seek annexation failed on April 8 when enough signatures were cancelled from the petition thwarting the plan for incorporation in-corporation into Bountiful. Proponents Pro-ponents vowed to annex "street by street" if necessary to become part of Bountiful. |
