Show Suspect captured after leaving scene of burglarized home By MARK EDDINGTON Staff Writer WOODS CROSS A 23-year-old Price man, who was seen leaving leav-ing the scene of a home burglary by the owner Thursday afternoon, was arrested minutes later by a North Salt Lake police officer. Richard D. Whaley was arrested after Officer John Hemdon pulled him over on Interstate 15 and saw a stereo and shotgun matching the description of what was reported stolen sitting in plain view in the rear seat. Herndon also found a marijuana joint. Woods Cross Police Chief Paul Howard said a city resident returned to his home in the 2200 South area about 1 p.m. and saw a strange vehicle and man in his driveway. Police report the suspect was seen closing the trunk of his automobile i and fleeing the scene. The homeowner wrote down the license ' plate number and called police when he discovered his home had been burglarized. An ATL (Attempt To Locate) was aired over police radio. Hemdon Hem-don sighted the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on 1-15. Howard said Hemdon followed Whaley onto Beck Street and back onto the interstate before pulling him over. Howard said Whaley forced et try into the home by breaking i basement window after he tried and failed to break in through the back door. Whaley was booked into the Davis County Jail and was arraigned arraign-ed Monday. He was charged with burglary and theft, both second degree felonies, and a class A misdemeanor for possession of a controlled substance. |
