Meadowbrook El em. Council raises funds special education Student Council members at Meadowbrook Elementary School in Bountiful have been working hard on a fund-raising project that will benefit a special education classroom in their school. Council members are selling cookies and pop to schoolmates. The activity is a good service project and fund-raiser at the same time. They have already raised over $300 for the computer. The special education (II IH) class only has one older computer, and the students in that class like to use it all day long. A second computer com-puter would give more of the children a chance to work with the computer. Many special education students benefit from the time they spend using a computer. If enough money is raised, the student council would also like to buy a "Muppet Board," which is a larger screen that is adapted to special education. Meadowbrook had one on loan from the state for some time and the students in the class really seemed to enjoy it. The student council at Meadowbrook is under the direction direc-tion of Janice HowercL The purpose for a student council in an elementary elemen-tary school is to develop leadership skills, run service projects, promote school activities and fund-raisers. This year the student council at Meadowbrook has already sponsored spon-sored a Spirit Week which included Bountiful High School cheerleaders, a pajama day and the fund-raiser for the new computer. |
