Show Bomb threat fad in Davis schools r By MARK EDDINGTON Staff Writer BOUNTIFUL Davis County schools, already victimized by a slew of bomb threats early last week, received two more on Thursday which led to more student evacuations while school staff and police searched for explosives, ex-plosives, i About 850 students were evacuated from Stewart Elementary School for 30 minutes when a caller warned school officials of a bomb. An anonymous anony-mous caller phoned Central Davis Junior High in Layton three different times, counting down how much time school staff had before an explosive would supposedly detonate. Over 800 students at the school were evacuated at 12:30 p.m. while police and bomb-sniffing dogs combed the area. No explosives were found. AH told, more than 6,000 students at five different schools were evacuated in one week due to bomb threats, causing substantial disruption and anxiety among students and administrators. Viewmont High School administrators also received threats, but decided not to evacuate. Police aren't sure if the calls are related, but suspect some of the calls are part of a "copycat syndrome." Officers across the county are pooling information in-formation and cooperating to help apprehend the offenders. Sources close to the investigation say officers are close to arresting several suspects in connection with some of the threats. O Davis County School District Superintendent Richard Kendell called the threats "an incredibly malicious and thoughtless act." School officials are looking at installing equipment to trace the origin of calls if the problem persists. |
