Show Hungry Hearts program helps feed the needy By JANIS STUART Little Caesars is holding its annual an-nual canned-food drive, , called Hungry Hearts, Feeding the Needy of Utah. "Hungry Hearts "is a unique program pro-gram that collects non-perishable canned food in all Utah Little. Caesars Pizza locations, and is also raising money to help fund a statewide food banking center," explained Troy Steiner of Little Caesars Pizza. ; - There are 32 established food pantriesshelters around the state where homeless and hungry people can get help. Davis County residents can make donations to Bountiful Community Church, 100 N. 400 E Davis County Department Depart-ment of Human Services, 225 S. 200 W. in Farmington and in Layton, Fishes and Loaves, St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 85 Church St. The Hungry Hearts food drive runs from Nov. 24 through Dec. 17. All of the food collected from the drive will stay in the areas from which it is donated. A Utah Hunger fact sheet states that more than 200,000 Utahns live , below the federal poverty guideline. The number of Utahns living in poverty has increased by 42 percent . since 1979 The case load of j emergency food agencies has in- j creased 232 percent since 1983. ... Hungry Hearts encourages citizens to donate non-perishable canned goods at any Utah Little Caesars Pizza location. In return, Little Caesars will give the donor a free order of Bonus Bread (half an order of garlic bread). , |
