Show Former Bountiful police chief, judge dies at 68 By GARY R. BLODGETT BOUNTIFUL -- Former Bountiful police chief Dean O. (Gus) Anderson died last Saturday at age 68. Gus was Bountiful police chief for 16 years, after which he served four years as Davis County Precinct Court judge. Prior to serving as chief of police in Bountiful, he was a police officer in Salt Lake City for 11 years. Known for his keen sense of humor and personalized stories, Gus - was in demand as a master of ceremonies and performed more than I 300 wedding ceremonies -- some as an LDS bishop and many as a I "non-denominational" judge. He had suffered a stroke in September I 1988, but his death was attributed to complications as a result of internal bleeding, according to his wife, Jean. Gus served many years as an umpire and coach of softball and Little League and Pony League baseball. He worked with Davis . County troubled youths and was involved in the prevention of drugs and alcohol among local adolescents. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gus was a bishop of the Rose Park Sixth Ward. He served a mission to the southern states, and for most of his adult life was a Gospel Doctrine teacher. At the time of his death he was active in the Bountiful 37th Ward high priest group. He also served as a Salt Lake Temple I worker. I He was president of the Utah Police Chiefs Association, served I two terms as director of the Salt Lake Police Mutual Aid Society and was appointed to the governor's committee for law enforcement Funeral services will be held Wednesday noon in the Bountiful 37th Ward, 1540 N. 400 E., Bountiful. Friends and relatives may call at the Russon Mortuary on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. See obituary for further details. |
