Afton House, 460 S. 100 E., is billed as "a pretty, quiet place," and designed to provide self-enrichment classes in such areas as self-esteem, improved im-proved communication, substance abuse education, and codependen-cy. codependen-cy. Co-owners of the new venture, Marilyn Mapes and Nonie Gilbert, speak highly of their location, in a ' v . newly . renovated home originally built in the 1920's by Alvin and Af- -- ton Moss. "This house provides the kind of , ' setting that- promotes learning," . said Mrs. Mapes, a businesswoman, ' homemaker and former real estate agent "We plan to keep Afton House comfortable, quiet and informal. in-formal. - ,t "One of the goals of all of our classes is to have fun," said Mrs. : Gilbert, a certified substance abuse counselor and : homemaker; ' "Increasing our self-knowledge and choosing to adopt new attitudes or behaviors certainly doesn't need to be boring or grim. , . Classes at Afton House will be kept small so that educational material mate-rial can be discussed and all questions ques-tions answered.
