Show C8 DAVIS COUNTY CLIPPER Wednesday, May 24, 1989 Veterans' rep. will be available for consultation and assistance CLEARFIELD A Clearfield Job Service veterans' representative will be available for consultation and other assistance once each week to South Davis residents living liv-ing in Farmington and south. Bob Russell, a retired veteran with many years of experience in personnel-related activities, will be at the Bountiful National Guard Armory on '400 North, west of Bountiful Junior High, each Thursday Thurs-day from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If that time is inconvenient, appointments appoint-ments can be scheduled to meet client needs. On Thursday afternoons, after-noons, Mr. Russell will meet with area employers. He seeks to alert agencies to the availability of veterans having certain cer-tain skills and training. He may also help direct former military personnel per-sonnel to further educational opportunities. oppor-tunities. A once-a-month program helps those retiring or separating from the military to market their job skills. "We help veterans to identify their skills and expertise. We also help re-orient, them to civilian terminology, ter-minology, to the civilian work : world, where they may be able to utilize their skills," he said. ' The seminar is conducted in conjunction con-junction with fellow Veterans Job Service Workers Bob Lowe and Veda Jones. Other topics covered in the two-day workshop include information in-formation on how to prepare resumes, cover letters, and how to "survive" job interviews. "Every one of, the veterans comes out of the service with marketable skills that are already fully-developed. They're Must known by different names in the military," Mr. Russell emphasizes. The jobs seminar is held every third Monday and Thursday, and although al-though only offered for several months in an expanded format, it has proven very popular. Mr. Russell is an Ohio native who first came to Utah to attend Brigham Young University. He holds a political science degree and is completing a master's degree in public administration from the University Uni-versity of Utah. ' He served in many military capacities around the world, including in-cluding duty in several areas of Southeast Asiaand many parts of the United States. He is married to the former Ellen Clendenin and ' they are parents of five children. i Since retiring from the military 13 years ago, he was employed as director of marketing for Albion Laboratories in Clearfield; has worked in insurance, and as a training train-ing manager and area supervisor for Southland Corp. i The South Ogden resident joined Job Service about three years ago, working in the Salt Lake City office. of-fice.
