Show and Mother of Year, to be named Feb. 18 The 1989 Utah Mother of the Year and Young Mother Rep- 7 resentative will be named at the annual an-nual American Mothers, Inc., Utah . Association conference will be held at the Salt Lake Hilton Hotel on "'Saturday, Feb. 18, with registration at 7:30 ajn seminars beginning at 8:30 ajn. and ending with a banquet at 1 p.m., according to Marcia Ford,, president-elect of the'organization. registration is $20 Jar workshops work-shops and banquet T The public is invited to attend. In addition to naming the Mother and Young Mother of the Year, the organization will honor the winners of the music, literature, and arts and crafts contests. All first place winners win-ners will compete at the national American Mothers, Inc. Convention which will be held in Spokane, ' Wash, from April 27 to May l.The state exhibit held in conjunction with the convention will be at the ZCMI Centec Feb. 15-17. Keynote speaker at the state conference con-ference will be Dr. Suzanne Das-trup Das-trup who will speak on "How to Strengthen the Spiritual and Moral Foundations of the Home." Dr. Dastrup is a frequent speaker at BYU Education Week and is in practice with Lynn Scoresby. She was recently featured on the front page of the Deseret News for her outstanding work. Workshops will be held throughout through-out the morning. Speakers wttl be: Carol' Voorhees, noted speaker and member of the Governor's Council for Drug-Free Youth, will speak on "How to Help Kids Avoid Drugs."5 ; Jeanne English and Dierdre Paulsen, Paul-sen, frequent BYU Education Week speakers, will speak on how to protect and preserve pictures, letters, let-ters, newspaper articles, textiles ' such as blessing and wedding dresses,. dres-ses,. Currently, she is the community relations re-lations coordinator. She is a wife and mother of a four-year-old daughter. She will speak on "Playing "Play-ing With Your Child-Why It Is So v Important.", V;.v.Cj- ';'' Anna Lou Jeffs, director of Car-den Car-den Memorial School, a private ' school, is well-educated and ex- tremely well-versed in children's literature and education past and present, and the effects of it in our children's lives. She will present the "Read-Aloud Mother'' and show what we should look for and ' what we should avoid for our chil- -. dren's reading material. --; Nellee Woodland, a bundle of enthusiasm, en-thusiasm, is involved in many programs pro-grams to help teachers be better teachers tea-chers and love the students. She is ; currently working on a program to help visually handicapped children. She has ideas on how to deal with children and with stress. Her topic will be on children and stress which applies to young mothers, as well as older ones. , Michael R. Loveridge, attorney, has 15 years of practice of estate planning, has presented hundreds of lectures to social, business, and civic ci-vic organizations, including the University of Utah, Mountain Bell, Mountain Fuel, Utah Power and Light, BYU Education.
