Taylor student council invited in-vited Valley View's student council to join them in a training retreat at the State Capitol Dec. 1. They visited the Supreme Court Chief Justice office where Pace McCon-kie, McCon-kie, research assistant to Assistant Chief Justice Howe, provided information in-formation and discussion on the Supreme Court. Representative Stan Smedley met with the students and introduced them to the House. Studcntbody president Tanner Mickclson, sat in the Speaker's seat and" the other students were at the Representatives' Representa-tives' desks. Under the direction of Parliamentarian Carol Peterson, they learned parliamentary procedures proce-dures and how to vote for bills. They then moved to the Senate Chambers were executive secretary Joan Thomas lcdahem in Senate procedures and again learned about passing a bill. A brainstorming session was held in the committee room under the direction of Janice Ridges, school-wide school-wide Enrichment instructor. Former J. A. Taylor studcntbody president, Jon Cook, talked about the importance impor-tance and rewards of serving on the student council. The retreat concluded con-cluded with a pizza party under the direction of Susie Becker and Paula Sant, parents from Valley View Elementary. |
