Show County to get taxes Davis County is scheduled to receive re-ceive $22,610 from the Federal Government's payments-in-lieu of taxes for 1988. These funds, administered by the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management, helps compensate com-pensate the county for non-taxable federal lands within its boundaries. The county can use the funds for the same purposes as it does general gener-al revenues such as fire and police protection, rescue operations, road construction, and other vital services. In all, 29 counties in Utah will share a $9,497,504 total. Box Elder County will receive the highest payment of $854,788, followed by Washington County at $773,905; and Tooele County will receive $716,518. PILT funds are authorized by Congress which recognizes that counties of local government en- ' . tities with substantial acreages of federal lands, cannot collect sufficient suffi-cient taxes to provide needed ser-, vices, or they were taxing fewer residents at higher rates. |
