Show Harris attends NASA workshop Michael B. Harris, physics teacher at Layton High School, was one of two Utah science teachers selected to attend the NASA Education Workshop for Math and Science Teachers -NEWMAST) this past summer. The program, sponsored by the National Science Teachers Association Asso-ciation and supported by the National Na-tional Aeronautics and Space Administration, is designed to recognize rec-ognize and honor outstanding math and science teachers. After spending two weeks at a NASA research center, these honors hon-ors teachers were able to bring home to their classrooms sound, up-to-date, aerospace science, knowledge of the function of NASA's research centers, and the newest technological information. Teachers became involved in a broad range of activities which gave them an overall view of aerospace aeros-pace endeavors. These activities included seminars, conducted by scientist, engineers and other NASA personnel, sessions devoted de-voted to curriculum development and rigorous field trips on and off NASA research centers. Much of the participants'' time was spent at the NASA-CALTECH NASA-CALTECH jet propulsion laboratory labora-tory which is the command center for the Voyager missions to Jupiter and Saturn, the Viking mission to Mars, and Mariner probe sent to Venus and Mercury. Other seminars semi-nars and briefings were held at Mt. Palomar Observatory, Edwards AFB, California Institute of Technology, Tech-nology, and the space shuttle launch facility at Vandenburg AFB. |
