J By TOM HARALDSEN Sports Editor The Bountiful Flyers Track and Field team is concluding another successful season, coming back with 72 medals from the Utah Summer Sum-mer Games held recently in Cedar City. Flyers' athletes competed in four meets this year, and had 19 state champions during the state finals held in conjunction with the Summer Sum-mer Games. The Flyers have traditionally tradi-tionally been one of the strongest track and field teams in Utah, and this season was no exception. Several Flyers were undefeated in their events this year, according to coach Lynn Dubois. Many also qualified for the regional finals which were slated for last week at Highland High. Athletes from Colorado, Col-orado, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas were part of last weekend's meet, with top three finishers in all events qualifying for the national finals in Gainesville, Fla. later this month. Coaches for this year's team included in-cluded Tom McDonough, Dave Chowen, Mark Johansen, Lynn Dubois, Roland Gee, Alan Parker, Merrilyn Clifford, Karlynn Bloom-field, Bloom-field, Steve Sugden, Jade Beck-man, Beck-man, Anthony Skedros and Craig Malcom. "The coaches wish to thank all the athletes and parents who combined com-bined to make this a successful season," sea-son," coach Dubois stated. Here is a breakdown on how Flyers did in Cedar City: BANTAMS (ages 8-10) Boys Tyler Nielsen, 4th in 800 meters; Chris Bahr, 6th in 1500; Jacob Staker, 6th in 400; 4x400 relay re-lay team of Chris Bahr, Tyler Nielsen, Chris Call and Jacob Staker, Stak-er, 2nd. Girls Debbie Faldmo, 3rd in shot put; Stephanie Addams, 2nd in shot put. MIDGETS (ages 10-11) Boys Robbie Jensen, 1st in 1500; Brett Gooch, 2nd in 200; Steve Cutler, 4th in 400; Brooks Bahr, 6th in 100 and 5th in 80 meter hurdles; Joel Addams, 4th in 80 hurdles and 6th in discus; Brad Birkes, 6th in 800; Ben deJong, 5th in 100; relay team of deJong, Trevor Tre-vor Linton, Alan Gee and Gooch, 2nd in 4x100; relay team of Gooch, Jensen, Gee and Cutler, 2nd in 4x400. Girls Melissa Judd, 1st in 400; Kristen Johansen, 5th in 400; Mira Curtis, 1st in both the 1500 and 3000 meters; Natalie Pearson, 1st in high jump; Emily Mabey, 3rd in high jump; relay team of Johansen, Judd, Merrilee Larsen and Curtis, first in 4x400; relay team of Pearson, Pear-son, Judd, Emily Kilgore and Mabey, 3rd in 4x100; relay team of Larsen, Adrienne Evans, Lindsey Linton and Tami Thompson, 6th in 4x100. Girls Becky Thompson, 6th in the 200 hurdles; Loni Beckman, 3rd in the javelin. INTERMEDIATE (ages 15-16) Boys Gavin Malcom, 1st irj javelin and long jump; Jason Bush, 2nd in 400 and long jump; Justin Tippetts, 3rd in triple jump and long jump; Jeremy Lawson, 3rd in 200 and 4th in 100; the relay team of Bush, Lawson, Malcom and Tippetts, Tip-petts, 1st in the 4x100; the same relay team also taking first and setting set-ting a new state record in the 4x400. Girls Ruthie Martineau, 3rd in the long jump and fourth in the high jump; Karen Miller, 2nd in the 400 meters; the relay team of Martineau, Mar-tineau, Monica Anderson, Vadine Curtis and Miller, 3rd in the 4x100. YOUNG MEN-WOMEN (ages 17-18) Boys Steve Sugden, 1 st in 800; . Donavan Anderson, 2nd in discus; Boyd Mark, 2nd in javelin and 5th in discus; Martin Pack, 3rd in 800, Ken Chowen, 5th in 110 hurdles. Girls Merrilyn Clifford, 1st in both the 200 and 400 meters; Karlynn Kar-lynn Bloomfield, 3rd in the 400 hurdles hur-dles and 6th in the 100 hurdles.
