Show Ute basketball: worth watching With a winning first season behind him, University basketball coach Bill Foster goes into this year with a mostly inexperienced but enthusiastic en-thusiastic team. Win or lose, the Foster Kids will show Ute fans an exciting ex-citing brand of basketball in our beautiful Special Events Center. This University has a long and proud basketball tradition, which this year's team continues. Indicating our great future potential are the freshmen fresh-men playing varsity ball this year. We have the makings here of conference con-ference champions. This year's team has been described as "building" or "developing, dominated as it is by freshmen and sophomores, which is a polite way of V3 BASKETBALL Xj saying "don't expect too many victories." But the same was said last year, and Foster pulled out a 13-12 mark in his first season. Anything remains possible. Among the dedicated athletes on the court this season will be "Nard" Tomlin, who averaged 30 points per game as a freshman; Scot Jones, the forward whose speed and hustle bring him rebounds and spectacular shots; little Tyrone Medley; and captain Eddie Trail, who led the team in scoring as a junior. For the money-conscious, incidentally, the basketball team is the only intercollegiate athletic team on campus that completely pays its own way, without relying on those big subsidies from the students. So spend some time and watch an exciting brand of basketball. SEC is a great place to do it and the team will appreciate your cheering. See the Foster Kids for yourself! |
