Show Search still on for new U president This screening committee will, according to President Woolley, "accept names proposed by alumni and other sources, prepare portfolios port-folios on the qualifications of potential candidates, contact candidates to determine their interest, in-terest, and submit a list of names to the full Board of Directors of the Alumni Association." The board will then screen the candidates and submit three or four names to the Presidential Search Committee. President Woolley is a member of that committee with seven other University alumni and eight non-alumni non-alumni members. President Emery, special advisor to the committee, is also an alum. Alumni and others are invited to suggest names to the alumni committee by writing to President Harold Woolley, Alumni House. Today's Chronicle straw poll was taken at Orson Spencer Hall Monday at 1 p.m. The results are: Nixon 44 percent McGovern 48. percent Undecided 8 percent The University Presidential Search Committee has held its preliminary meetings and already rumors as to who will be chosen to replace President Alfred C. Emery are everywhere, but one reliable source close to the committee says only six persons have been discussed by the committee. The six include former University president James C. Fletcher and law professors Arvo Van Alstyne and Wallace R. Bennett Jr. One Harvard professor and two officials from Washington, D.C., were left unnamed by the source. He said these six are only a start and several more will be considered before a decision will be made. This should not therefore be considered a complete list of potential candidates, can-didates, only a list of those who have been given consideration so far. Although no date for a decision has been set, it will not be in the immediate future, he said. The State Board of Higher Education has also asked the Alumni Association to assist in the search, so the association has resolved to "take an active role" in screening candidates. An alumni screening committee will consist of John Crawford Jr., chairman; Dr. Burtis R. Evans and Mrs. T. Upton (Rhoda) Ramsey. Alumni Association President Harold Woolley and Executive Director Lee Ence will be ex-officio members of the committee. |
