Show i "HJ" rr v', p i? r "relaxing," but it has made my flesh creep. I now have a recurrent nightmare in which I'm hitch-hiking across the Nevada desert on a rainy night. Finally a car stops. Relieved, I climb in and then realize the driver is Dua in e Brown I There are others, equally grisly. There must be other people who have similar psychological and physical reactions reac-tions to this video higgler, and I want them to know that they're not alone. We have apparently surprised Mr. Brown at home paging through the contents of a large black folder, perhaps a status report on last week's fast offerings or maybe some nostalgic snaps from the Relief Society bazaar. He looks up unruffled and flashes what he obviously thinks we'll think is a warm, friendly grin. "Hello, friends," he begins, and his words issue too soothingly from the scrupulously maintained smile, a disconcerting pause separating every third one. He meanders into a surrealistic parable, his glazing eyes tracking left to right across idiot cards. He tells of a woman whose car was stolen in a shopping center T . . r tK M fi f il ft 1 r . .-1 parking lot. A week later the car was returned with a note attached listing the car's defects: "...also your windshield wipers squeak.. .and your spark plugs need replacing. ..Well, frankly. ..I can think of some even better reasons. ..to have your car r ep a i red . . . a n d serviced reg'larly... I suppose this commercial was intended to be "pleasant" or actualization, "and best of all, he loved the fall." This was only one contribution in an edition jam-packed with important, im-portant, liberal comments, concepts con-cepts and style, a seemingly typical day in the life of the Chronicle. Thank you, and your staff for a job being well done. Ren Weiss Nightmare Editor: A short while ago I saw an advertisement ad-vertisement on TV for Duaine Brown Chevrolet. It begins with a shot of Duaine Brown himself sitting in a garishly overfurnished living room his brilliantined hair and that part of his highbuff Florsheims not buried in sumptuous shag carpeting reflecting all the magic of the studio lights.
