Show ASUU and speed? Students may honestly disagree about what kind of job student government has done this year, but almost everyone agrees on one thing. The present ASUU Executive Cabinet and Assembly move at the same speed as the Mississippi River. Last year's Assembly and Cabinet, despite many shortcomings, least had "characters." Any Assembly meeting featured Todd Hayes ogling the front-row females, Max Goff tossing coins to decide whether to speak in favor or against a bill, Pete Sorensen debating every single bill presented, Wendy Love calling points of order, and Brent Petty scoring debater's points against no opposition. This year it's all different. It's not much more distinguished, since assembly representatives sense the pointlessness of their whole operation, and they don't get more done in a meeting. This air of listless tiredness extends to their work. Some Cabinet members spend only a few minutes every day in their offices (there are, of course, notable exceptions). Even Duane Moss, ASUU President, admits that "one Chronicle reporter must spend more time in your offices than all ASUU put together." He's only half-kidding. Getting purchase orders signed by one of the three Finance Board members is a tough job. ASUU could do something with that $600,000. Give it a little thought. |
